Please bear with me - another painful dentist rant

I hate how most dentists wont pull aching teeth anymore

you have to go to a "dental surgeon"

in other words, pay me to tell you I can't do anything for you -------- BUT before you leave, let's talk about capping that chipped tooth and whitening that cute smile.

They have such a racket going and nobody seems to notice this.

    Sorry for the rant

I know, Mickey. I haven't had the same dental experiences, but I've had the same experiences and feeling in other places. Very aggravating.

You need to work on your rants, Mike. I know you can do better than that...
      Once more, with feeling!

Seriously. My local dentist is just lazy. When I go to him with tooth ache, he just says" nothing wrong with that!", and sends me home.
I think he's waiting for the cavity to get much much worse, so he can then charge me $$$$ for what was a simple fix six months ago.
I then go to a city dentist, he pulls the tooth, and it's just filled with puss, it stank to high heaven.
      "Nothing wrong, yeah right!!!!"

The previous one was a depressed sadist. I was gripping the arms of the chair like a vice, the pain was terrible as he was drilling, and he then said "I just give people half the pain shots, then don't need that much anyway..."
Is he saving money on pain meds or what?
I should have been gripping his groin instead! "How's that for pain, mister?!"

      Sorry for the rant....

I am recuperating from a root canal right now.

I must respectively disagree with all of you... I have one of the best dentists (he is so good, you cannot even get him without a personal referral from an existing trusted patient), who is painless, superb, intelligent, fair and everything you would hope to find in a medical professional. He is open, transparent and honest in his practices and in planning dental strategies. The specialists to whom he has referred me for various services are of a similar caliber.

I am aware there are some inferior dentists out there, but this guy is not one of them, nor any of the specialists who have me as a patient.

But, I must share the aphorism I embraced from my (late and ex-) father-in-law, and which I have oft-repeated to my children: "The only medical professional who will never lie to you, and whose advice you must observe on a daily basis is your dentist."

I have a few cavities but I haven't been back to the dentist since my last root canal.
                  It was like this...

I have a great dentist, she rules.

I've had two cavities in my entire life...and that was when I was 14 years old.

The key, floss/brush/mouthwash in the morning...floss /brush/mouthwash in the evening...and if you can squeeze anything in between...even better.

I'm very OCD about my teeth...I get my teeth cleaned at the dentist every six months without fail, been doing it since my mid teens.

I'm lucky enough never to have had the need for a root canal, but my late dad...and my mom have had it...I can only imagine, ouch.

I did have on period when my teeth were neglected, when I was hospitalized, and stayed at a nursing facility for a year...but after being discharged...I started doing my routine again...but had developed too much plaque by then...so I went to two deep cleaning treatments...that is not your ordinary six month teeth cleaning...this was the mother of all mothers deep cleanings...had to endure multiple injections throughout my gums...OUCH...it was brutal, lol.

Also, if you disagree with your dentist, always get a second opinion...you'd be surprised by the difference of opinions between dentists...prices vastly varied as well. Before I met my current dentist...I had another one give me an estimate for two deep cleaning sessions...he quoted me a whopping $4000, my dental insurance would cover $1000...so total of $3000, plus he said I needed a $600 ocular mouth guard. Well, I left that crook after my second opinion quote from my current dentist...$600...yes...$2400 less than that crook...and to top it off...my new dentist said I didn't even need an ocular mouth guard. I'm so lucky I found her, and her regular teeth cleanings are only $75...she rules.

I did the dental teeth whitening once, that was painful too...my teeth/gums woukd throb with pain all day long...I was miserable for two days, and the results were just okay. I recommend the at home Crest Whitening Strips, more convinient, much cheaper...and found the results just as good as professional dental teeth whitening.

Mike, get a second opinion...but if that's the only protocol, well, do whatever you can to be pain free, that's the most important thing.

My teeth could use some straightening...but too bloody old for braces at this point, lol.

Had a really nasty pain in my jaw

Knew it was a bad tooth

My dentist said, that tooth is a root canal and CAN'T hurt

I said ok and left in a huff

                        Went to a walk-in-dentist

She said it's all infected and gave me an antibiotic

I have to go back next week to get it pulled

They can't pull it until I get a blood-thinner i'm taking out of my system first.

I'm still crazy p'ed off at my dentist

I better stop or I might say something I dont want too about my dentist

I have crazy dentist stories, too terrifying to relate here. Just get that sucker outta there!
I know what it is too sit on tooth pain, though. When I had an infection in the
area where I'd had a wisdom tooth out, I could have murdered someone. It's tough but it passes.

I just try to remember that roughly half of all dentists & doctors (and lawyers, realtors, mechanics, etc.) are below average. If you think you're dealing with someone in that range, find someone else.

I'm a tad embarrassed to say I haven't been in 20 years. I did have a friend of my wife's (who's a technician/assistant) do a cleaning before our wedding and she said everything looks good (or good enough). As a coffee drinker, and former smoker, I'm sure they could be whiter but I'll manage.
