We got her from some barn 18 years ago and she was a character through and through. She would burrow under the covers to sleep even if it was hot. She would dip her paw in the water a lot to drink.
About 3 or 4 years ago she developed a thyroid problem and to cure it, got a radioactive treatment. For a month afterwards she had to be handled less and her droppings specially disposed of. I called her "The cat we nuked".
About a year ago she started to get urinary tract infections and a cyst was seen on her bladder. We treated her and she was hanging in there but she kept losing weight, even though she ate good. This last infection she got anti-biotics and steroids. The test would be how well she would do after she was off of them. Well, she got weaker, lost appetite and more weight. Her intestines were inflamed and it was not going to get any better. So, it was time to say goodbye.
18 years is the longest of any of the cats we had. I was hoping to get her to 19, but it was not to be.
She will be missed.
