Inexpensive movie poster frame ideas? ( 27" x 41" size)

Anyone collect theatrical movie posters? I just picked up a nice vintage poster for cheap (Russ Meyer double feature!) and thought it would fit one of the 27" x 40" frames I already have. Wrong! I forgot that the older posters were closer to 27" x 41" so the poster is too big for my frames. I looked around on Amazon, and the cheapest I could find is about $60 shipped. I paid a third of that for the poster so I'm not sure if I want to go that route without doing a bit of research first. I don't need something fancy, just a frame the right size that will allow me to hang up the poster and protect it a bit. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How about a cut to size piece of masonite, cheap plexi glass and some old 27" x 40" plastic Walmart poster side snaps (with extra inch added with spare piece ) ?

I've got a super-duper priced custom frame guy I use for stuff all the time - he's at Downsview Flea Market. His prices are usually on par with ready-mades. It's nuts.

That poster is amazing, I'm jealous you own and are allowed to display it. I have a picture of Uschi Digard in my bathroom, I consider that a victory.

I was able to find really nice, heavy duty collage picture frames at Michael's (craft store) a number of years back, but they were quite pricey (about $50 IIRC). It's tough finding anything to accommodate a true one-sheet, most frames you find are 24x36. I have 5 of the black collage frames in my home theater room, I buy one-sheets for my favorite, mostly current movies (LOTR, Harry Potter, the Marvel films, Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy), and change them up regularly.
Last year I was in Walmart and they actually had cheap 41x27 poster frames for around $20; I didn't need any by then, so I didn't buy any (also, I didn't want to mix/match styles). You might check there.

We have a used hotel furniture store in the neighboring town. They have HUGE frames! Not only is it easy to remove the ugly, fake, water-color print that is in the frame, but most cost less than $10.00.

Thanks, I was thinking that you and Aaron might appreciate a poster like this. I got this from my uncle, who like my father, shares a lot of our tastes in movies (and then some, he's a hardcore film nut!). I think that the Japanese culture really has a different mentality about stuff like this, my wife doesn't bat an eye as long as I'm not displaying something too explicit for the kids or too embarrassing for visitors, this is lightweight as far as she is concerned. Oh, and Uschi Digard.. *sigh*

I was thinking about Ikea, I might be hitting the one in Burlington this weekend. Thanks for the ideas from you other folks too! I'm gonna shop around for a bit. I wish Mediaplay was still around, I bet they would have had something suitable.

I got my poster frames from Walmart for about $8. Mine was about 23x34. But they had larger sizes. Might be worth a check.

Check to see if you have any local framers, one may be cheep. I don't think you'll find any thing other than 27X40. Cheep pre-made places I know of are K-mart, A.C. Moore, and Walmart.

Another option:

A lot of the movie poster shops I've been to use a place in North York called Mount 'N Seal. What they do is shrink wrap the poster against a piece of cardboard. It looks nicer than it sounds, if you just want the poster displayable and protected this might be a good option.

This is what it looks like - you can't see the edge of the cardboard, they cover it with any colour you want - so it's kind of framed looking - and it's got a hoop of nylon on the back so you can hang it on a wall:

Holy smoke the poster seal guy? i've getting work done by him for 20 years! His shop used to be in Scarborough, last time I was in there he looked terrible and was complaining he'd be out of business soon.

I need some posters repaired, I should look him him up.

Hey, that's an interesting idea, thanks Aaron! Is the cardboard backing thick enough to prevent warping? I remember buying some movie posters from Mediaplay years ago, they came shrinkwrapped to cardboard. I just hung them up as is, but the cardboard was thin and they started warping pretty badly after awhile, they wouldn't stay flat. But I guess if the cardboard is thick enough, that shouldn't cause a problem?

I might take you up on this Brian, do you know how much he charges for stuff like this?
