The Young Ones was a brilliant show.
Top notch comedy on a shoestring budget....

Drop Dead Fred was the first movie my boys saw in a theatre. Young Ones was when MTV knew good TV. Adrian could kick the crap out of all the Teen Moms for sure. Just way too young. Wonder if the accident he was in years back played a factor. He was laid up for a long time. It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

EDIT -- here we go: "He was left seriously ill after a quad bike accident in 1998 which left him in a coma for several days, but was working until recently ... Speaking about the quad bike accident last year, Mayall said doctors had kept him alive on a life-support machine for five days and were about to turn it off when he began to show signs of life. He used to mark the occasion by exchanging presents with his wife and children and said the near-death experience changed his life. He said: "The main difference between now and before my accident is I'm just very glad to be alive. Other people get moody in their forties and fifties - men get the male menopause. I missed the whole thing. I was just really happy." (Source; UK Mirror)Last edited by SentientApe; Jun 9, '14, 4:19 PM.Comment

Screw it. I just ordered myself a copy of his television series "Bottom" on DVD. This rewatching of "The Young Ones" is helping (a little), but I've already memorized every single line over the years. I needz me some New Mayall.Comment

Anyone else remember when MTV showed the Young Ones on Sunday Night?
Bummed out about this. I remember me and a friend Byron (RIP) would watch The Young Ones on sunday nights on mtv followed by Benny Hill (another RIP) on our local channel. We loved that british humour and it made us laugh and we would not stop talking about it all week at school. That and our daily dose of Monty Python (which was also shown on MTV) made my 9th grade year seem so much more bearable. I can just see my friend somewhere on the other side doing pranks with Benny Hill on Rik!Comment

Quite vividly. I used to have a weekend summer job in the western (Chicago) suburbs, but would hang out at the house of a friend (with cable!) on Sunday evening to catch The Young Ones before riding back into the city.Comment

Mayall stole every episode where he had a guest appearance on "Blackadder" as Lord Flashheart!!!
"Mind if I use your phone? If word gets out I'm missing, five hundred girls will kill themselves. And I wouldn't want them on my conscience, not when they ought to be on my *face*!"Looking for redhead AJ heads (or figures) - both bearded & clean shaven (I'm trying to complete all the variations).
Also seeking: 1 blue Soldier Ape glove, 1 General Ape boot, sun reflector from PotA Fortress playset.Comment

Great quotes and sentiments from his peers in this article:
Tributes are flowing in for much-loved British actor and comedian Rik Mayall, who died in London Monday at age 56.
- Edmondson led the tributes to Mayall Monday, telling Britain's Press Association news agency: "There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.
"They were some of the most carefree, stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish *******."
- On Twitter, writer Hugo Rifkind suggested that fans of the show should pay homage to Mayall in true "Bottom" style: "Go home tonight, find someone you love, and hit them with a frying pan."
- House star Hugh Laurie, who worked with Mayall on "Blackadder," took to Twitter to recount a story about his co-star: "A young girl, stricken with terminal cancer, once asked Rik Mayall for an autograph. He wrote: 'Young Ones are never afraid.'"Comment
