Well after 28 years behind the wheel I got a speeding ticket. $158.00 & 3 points. As I got back into the city the highway goes from 2 lanes at 50mph to 4 lanes at 35mph and I didn't slow down fast enough ( I was also passing some cars I had been behind ) and the cop caught me. The fine and points are a set formula.

Seems kinda harsh for a first time offense, and a sudden 15 MPH drop sounds like a typical speed trap to me.
Let me guess...he asked "Do you know why I pulled you over?" You shoulda said..."Cause you thought I had donuts?" LOL....if you're gonna get a ticket anyway, might as well have some fun. -
Now have you beel Lucky for 28 years lol or was this REALLY the first time you ever speeded before lol

If he asked you that stupid question "do you know why I pulled you over?" You could always say, "because you got C's in school?" I hate it when they ask you that. Sound like a speed trap to me too. The states troopers will come through town here every now and then to make some easy money. They're not solving crimes or catching meth heads, just pulling high school kids over for doing 5 miles over the speed limit. Gets under my skin.Comment

I would plead not guilty. worst case scenario you waste some time going to court and still get the same fine/points. most times the cop knocks it down to a lesser offence like no seatbeltComment

should've taken it to court.. if it's your first they'll take off and just make you pay court fee's"Time to nut up or shut up"

Im fighting one on tuesday. Non active construction zone at 1:30 am. Speed limit dropped from 65 to 35 in 10 mph increments in less than 1000 feet. You could actually sit in your car in the 65 zone and see the 55 drop and the 45. If the road didn't bend you could see all 3, though the 35 was only during construction, but he still hit me with the inflated fine amount for the zone. I hadn't been nabbed in over 12 years. In Mass this fine will cost me around $1300 over the next 6 years. Even if I only get it reduced it's a major savings. It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

If I fought it and lost I'd get charged another $50.00, they even charge $3.75 to pay online so I'm just going to mail it in they're getting enough money as is.Comment

A State Trooper's primary job responsibility is to police the highways and interstates for traffic safety and violations. They don't solve crimes or track down meth heads...primarily. That would be detectives and a city police force. If he asked you that stupid question "do you know why I pulled you over?" You could always say, "because you got C's in school?" We have a WINNER! That was the first thing that crept into my mind when I saw the first post. BTW, for anyone going to the meet...soon as you get out of PA into West Virginia the speed limit goes up to 75 and then right back down to 55 or 65. Can't remember which. FYI---For those that have an Unlimited or can spare to use their limited Data Plan on their Cell Phones, I HIGHLY recommend an app called WAZE...it's a Social GPS App that has help me avoid tickets, accidents, & traffic MANY times.
It's not perfect. but it helps...and this coming from a guy who has been traveling by car from NY/NJ to DC & Richmond, VA 2-3 out of 4 weeks a month for the last 30 months.
Mine will be on the whole trip into Wheeling for sure.Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!Comment
