Anybody hear have pneumonia before? Any tips for me?

Well Im battling a bad case of pneumonia. I had a chest cold that I picked up when my son was in the hospital. My son has a rare Autoimmune disease and he's not doing so great. I have been worn out from lack of sleep, stress and worries over money. So when we went to the hospital for my son my body was already beat down. Anyway my question is besides antibiotics & pain killers have any of you girls & guys have any home remedy tips for me? I'm on 2 antibiotics, an inhaler & codeine cough syrup at bedtime. I'm eating fairly well. Im super weak, dizzy, hard to breathe. The doctors wantme back in 2 weeks for another chest X-ray. I take vitamin C 3 X's a day and a one a day vitamin.

    Any tips would be great.

If any of you had pneumonia before, how long did it take you to fully recover?

    I dont smoke, barely drink.

    Thank you

I'm so sorry about your son...my thoughts for his full recovery.

Well, you and I have private messaged each other quite a bit with our past medical history.

Yes, as you you know, I've had pneumonia, and that was the nicest thing about my hospitalization a decade ago (wow, can't believe it was a decade ago, time sure flies)...but won't get into that, because you already know, as well as some posters in here.

But I did get walking-pneumonia four months ago...I didn't post for over a month here. I had a bacterial infection, my sister got it too...we were both sick as dogs. Had no idea how and why we both contracted it...really odd. This was despite both of us getting a flu shot weeks before.

Had the flu, deadly coughing, I almost got a hernia coughing so hard, and my sister hurt her back from all that coughing...the only one who was spared in our household was our mom, amazing.

I was miserable for over six weeks...I took all the stuff you are taking...the one thing you didn't mention, and the thing we did...was too drink plenty of fluids. Water, orange juice, cinnamon tea with lemon...just keep getting hydrated. Also plenty of rest helps.

Drink fluids, rest...and let time just pass.

    Please get better...

The fact that you are eating is a very good sign. Every time I had pneumonia, I lost a lot of weight because I didn't even have the strength to chew food. So, if you are upright, eating, and obviously using a keyboard, you are definitely on the right track. Rest up, and do your breathing treatments as prescribed.

Thanks Hector. It seems you & I have alot in common.Big Boxing fans and many of the same health issues. Im going to add in the cinnamon tea & lemon and more water. Yeah our family is going thru so much. My son is 11 and has a Autoimmune disease named -Pots Dysautonomia, he also has Gastroparesis and many food allergies. And as you know Hector I had brain surgery for a tumor removal and since surgery i get 3-4 seizures a week. Bills are so tight. Pretty soon I have no choice but to sell off some of my toys & comics to keep up with the medical expenses.

Hector - how did they diagnose your pneumonia? X-rays? Mine was x-ray.

        Ok, i better go rest.

Thank you for the reply and info!

Hang in there. I have a disease called Sarcoidosis that presents mostly in my lungs. I get pneumonia easily and it takes a lot out of me. Do everything you can to treat it and keep yourself out of danger. It can turn south very easily. Good luck.

First of all, my very best to you and to your son.

Besides what you are already doing, make sure the you stay very well hydrated. And, make sure that you finished both of those antibiotics for your own sake and everyone else's.

It's going to take a good while for you to be back to your normal, but you will get there. Just take good care. Again, all of my best to both you and your son. Get well!

Thanks to everyone! I really appreciate the togetherness and support of the MM. I dont post here all that much. So really, the support & health tips mean alot. Today im more exhausted then yesterday. I just did a steroid nebulizer treatment so im a bit jumpy/hyper. I'm going to try to watch a movie and rest.

                  Thanks!

Well, I am absolutely the wrong person to give any advice on this subject, but I may have one thing to help, if you're not trying it already.

Get yourself a sinus flusher and shoot some salt water up that nose and down your throat stat!!!! You would not believe the difference it makes in cutting sickness short and cleaning up remaining infections. Now, it won't do anything to help combat viruses and stubborn bacteria, but it should help clean up the infection in the nose and throat area, which seems to linger forever, and drip down into your lungs making them worse.
And blow your nose as often as you can (which will mean you'll probably have to salt it again). Helps clean the virus and infection out.

Not only has my health improved dramatically since I've done this (for quite a few years now), but I forced it on my senior citizen parents as they would get alarmingly ill, and *poof* now they just get lightly sick (I yell at them GO SALT IT!! the second they complain).

You don't have to buy one of those expensive $80 sinus irrigators (though if anybody has recurring problems I recommend this as it's way better), you can get a cheap Sinus Rinse bottle and almost any store, like this: http://smartcanucks.ca/wp-content/up...s-rinse-Ad.jpg, but seriously, do NOT use their dumb packets or store saline solutions. Just keep it clean & simple by grabbing some non-iodized table salt and mix it with warm water yourself. It's much better and stronger.
I rarely ever have a cold or sinus infection for more than a day now (I salt immediately), and my parents never get very sick anymore.

I'm susceptible to lung infections which is a little similar (I think)

Best advice is when you cough spit out the gunk in a hanky - don't reswallow it

Sorry to hear this. I hope you feel better soon.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Had it back in 2000. Was off work for two weeks. Lost roughly 20lbs. and had a temp of 102. Stayed away from smoking for a little while and was put on antibiotics. Certainly took a lot out of me. All I can offer is best wishes on a speedy recovery.

I actually just had pneumonia not to long ago and it kicked my ***. Just take your meds and rest. By rest I mean lay there and don't do anything other than try to breath. It took me several weeks to fully recover and I and strong and in good shape, workout 6 days a week and take a pile of vitamins every day. When you finally start to feel better, you will be very weak for a while. Just take your time and easy back into your life or you will end up flat on your back again like I did.
