    Is your garden in?

Finished up with ours today, 3 kinds of tomatoes, Better Boy, Early Girl and Big Boy, for a total of 6 plants . A bunch of peppers , different kinds because they have been hit and miss over the years. And a couple kinds of onions. We are trying some berries and pumpkins, but the birds always seem to get the better of them. Only got a couple pumpkins last year that were worth carving.
With potatoes selling so cheap at the store these days, just didn't seem worth the effort to plant any this time. Still might put in some sweet corn once the soy beans are planted, it does pretty good along the field line.

Being in Texas I've had mine in since February . . . . just harveted the last bunch of Kale & Spinach, along with my first bunch of onions and peppers. I still have some Chard going and the Tomates are just starting to produce
    Here's a pic of our last harvest a couple of weeks ago . . . . .

How do you cook chard? steam it? or eat it raw like lettuce?

Saute" or in salads, same for the kale . . . but I juice a lot of it too. frankly, you can't eat this stuff everyday and jiucing it is way to get all the good stuff out of it with out really tasting much. I put it in a protien shake. The large leaf Spinach i use as a wrap for sandwiches and you really don't taste it raw.

been done with greens for a while here, now into peppers and maters. Have Megabite, taxicab, gold nugget and Roma tomatoes and pimento and cayenne peppers going. Bananas have fruit on them and the blueberries are almost finished.

This is what stinks about being in Ohio ! Do you turn your Romas into sauce?

you should be able to have really good blueberries up there, I think. No sauce yet, just fresh tomato salad.

Our most succesful crop seems to be snails this year.

Last fall Ed parked his excavator on top of my garden spot and being the hick, country people we are, every piece of equipment we own leaks. Now my usual garden spot is full of hydraulic fluid. Add to that a paranoid MIL next door who keeps calling the power company for seasonal disconnects and now refuses to give them her full name or account number so the the power can be turned back on, and I have no electricity going our shared irrigation pumps. I don't think a garden will happen this year.

Blueberries are happening though. Right now, I can barely lift my arms because we did a "quick" pruning job on fifteen acres yesterday. To make matters worse, we have hives in the field now and I did all that pruning in long pants tucked into boots, long sleeves, and a scarf across my mouth and nose. Thanks Ed, we couldn't have done this the day BEFORE the bees came? Grrrr.
