Hiya folks. I have a trip to St L tomorrow. Wondering if there are any 'must see' sort of toy or collectible places in the big city that I should hit.

Not really. We have a toy show 6 times a year, but the next one isn't until July.
The only place I can remember was on St. Charles Rock Road, but I haven't been there in years (so it may not be around anymore).Fresh, not from concentrate. -
We never made it past city museum. Spent the whole day there and went home exhausted. Thanks; I will have to learn more about the bimonthly toy show since it is only an hour and a half away.

The City Museum is awesome and so much not a museum. I usually come out bruised and battered, especially my knees...Comment

City Museum is sort of a full immersion architectural sculpture and playground. At it's base level, it is a bunch of mazes and passages built into (and onto) an old factory building in St. Louis.
There are salvaged remnants of buildings from the turn of the last century and one area of the building is devoted to a display of those sorts of things. There are several "themes" inside and outside the building for you to explore. Some of the exploring consists of crawling on your belly through small tunnels, some with sliding down two or three stories, plenty with crawling through open air tubes made of welded wire and rebar. It is a daredevils dream; and a helicopter parents nightmare.

Yes all of that and even more! There's a school bus perched on the top of the multi-story building and it's hanging over the side and you can go in it. Also on the roof is a ferris wheel... There's airplane fuselages mounted high in the air outside that have ladders and pathways made out of rebar and you can climb up to them and through them... I've lived in Missouri less than two hours from St. Louis pretty much my whole life and even lived in University City for a summer, and I've never heard anyone talk about this before. Seriously, I can't even count how many times I've been to St. Louis, and this is 100% news to me. Sounds awesome.Comment

I live in Columbia. There's another member that lives really close to Rolla, but I'll have to go through my PMs and see who it is. My memory's pretty shaky. Rolla's a nice town--I passed through last summer on my way down to the Jacks Fork River and I had forgotten how much I liked it.Comment

City Museum is classic! a Jungle Jim for the whole family! But be warned adults it is great workout and you may be sore or bruised keeping up with the kids. http://www.citymuseum.org/site/
If you like another favorite place of mine to visit is Monks Mound a historical Native American site across the river in Illinois. It has a nice museum and giant earthen mound worth climbing. It's 10-15 Minutes from St Louis.Comment
