Movies you were dragged to but now like

OK. We've talked about movies we've liked and disliked. What movies did you change your mind on once you were watching it?

I had no desire to see the Bridget Jones movie, but my wife insisted and I actually found it to be quite funny. (Must be a Hugh Grant thing) The same thing happened with "About a Boy."

The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable (both by M. Night Shyamalan)

Not my genre of movies because I really don't go for those types of thrillers, but thought they were excellent after seeing them.

I was taken to "The Notebook" and thought this is going to be a huge girl type crapfest!!!Boy was I wrong.Any married person that watched that and didn't shed a tear is inhuman...
The Gameplan with the Rock-I was thinking cheesy kid flick.I was surprised it had alot of good qualities to it and one hell of a great sound track...Long Live The KING BABY!!!

Would you believe... Raiders of the Lost Ark????

I was 11 in 1981, and to me Harrison Ford was Han Solo and that was it and that was all! But my Mom insisted on taking us, and, well, you know the rest. It's just about the best movie ever made.

"On Golden Pond" - I was about 15, looked like a stupid, heart tugging, chick flick. it was pretty cool.

It would have been great if they left the whole "Jane Fonda" character out of it (even though that was the main story.

Enchanted for me as well. I wouldn't say I was dragged, but I was taking one for the family. I was just going to sit through it basically, like many "kid" movies. GREAT movie. I plan on buying it very soon.

The Last Mimzy was also surprisingly good. I was totally against that one but my son and wife overruled. Pretty heavy Sci-Fi elements in that one.

I would also go for "The Notebook" and I'll add "The Bridges of Madison County".

Not movies that are my genre at all but she has been a good sport of seeing movies like "Saving Private Ryan" and even saw the first "Spider-Man" movie even though she knew nothing of comics and the word of mouth buzz had not spread at that point.

I did like both "The Notebook" and "The Bridges of Madison County". They are two of my wife's favorite movies of all time so I end up having to watch both a couple of times a year and she replicates by watching movies that really aren't up her alley.

The most recent surprise was "Alvin and the Chipmunks". I did not want to see it at all but was dragged along for "family time" and I think it was one of few family friendly movies out at the time. I went in with the attitude that the movie was going to completely stink but was pleasantly surprised. I'm not going to say it's the best movie of all time but it definitely surpassed my expectations which wasn't much.

It's funny Raiders of the Lost Ark was mentioned. My parents forced my brother and I to go see it. We wanted to go see something else (Clash of the Titans, I think). Raiders is now the movie I've seen the most and my second favorite movie of all time.

"Something About Mary"! I walked in thinking I was going to see a Chick-Flick...Boy, was I surprised! Never laughed so hard in a Movie Theater before!!

That's the first movie I thought of with this thread.

My mom dropped me and my 5 year old brother off at a theatre in
Longport NJ on a rainy day in 1981---and I was not to happy about it.
(I didn't like the title!)

It quickly became one of my favorite movies and still is today.

This hasn't happened again until just recently with "SUPERBAD"

I thought SUPERBAD would just be some "hip" kid flick---or some sorta
"cool" thing that would just unimpress me with gross-out humor that I didn't
find half as funny as the rest of the audience (ala 40 Year Old Virgin).

Instead, I couldn't stop laughing from the very start.

The Roth-era VH song was just "icing" on that cake
