    Nameless Cowboy

Hi - I think the image below is from the Mego Museum forums. I’ve had the image a while now, and didn’t record the URL. Kudos to the image owner for their outstanding collection!

Does anyone know what the names are for those circled figures within the picture? Are they circa 1980? I don’t think it’s the Lone Ranger…

    Thank you!

Thank you all for your help and responses. Yes! It's General Custard via Marx circa 1968! Wow, I had no idea that this toy actually existed other than in my childhood memories. No wonder I remember it being so tall - I think I saw that it was a whopping 12"!

This doll had to be the coolest thing ever when I was a lad. At what must have been my pre-school, it was one of many toys like it (others must have been from this collection), but I always went for this one. I'll venture a guess that this guy is what wetted my appetite for the Mego dolls I begged my parents for years later...but first, I got started with the mighty G.I. Joe via Hasbro (man, their fuzzy heads rocked)!

Since you're so effectively helping me to play toy-memory detective, by any chance does anyone recall from the Hasbro 1970's GI Joes collection a black car that had "flip cannons" under the hood (I think they would roll-out from under the hood if you flicked a switch), and it had a motorcycle hitch attached to the back? The car may have even been molded after a Chevrolet Corvette...

Thank you! Bummer - if memory serves, it was a cool toy. It does make sense that GI Joe didn't have a Vette with hood guns, though.

Might you be thinking of the Mattel Big Jim Lazervette?

Yeah! That's it! Big Jim? I must have conflated my GI Joe and Big Jim memories as I don't recall Big Jim as a name for toys. But yes, that's it.

Oh wow, now you got me goin'. I remember this guy, but thought he was a GI Joe baddie. Looks like his name was, "Dr. Steel" (shiny plastic hand with action arm - and all):

Yup. Here is the Kung Fu playset...

Well, dang. That's that, then. Thanks for clearing up the mystery and for the long lost memories of some seriously cool toys.
