Remembering the time before Titanic was found.

Tomorrow marks the 102nd anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. This got me thinking back to when there was the mystery of the Titanic. Back before the ship was found in 1985. That in turn got me thinking of how much I miss the simple pleasures of unsolved mysteries and other such things. Like the Bermuda Triangle, does anyone care anymore? I never hear it come up. Bigfoot sightings come and go. Ghost hunter shows have really taken the fun out of those tales; "Wow look, it's an orb, shadow, cold spot, etc". I want to to SEE the photo of John that was taken on picture day in which he actually die two hours before the shoot or when the pictures show up two weeks later, the parents freak oout and exhume the body to find that he is now BURIED IN THE CAP AND GOWN that he was not buried in! OK I never really bought that one but man it was great spooky fun to read in an issue of Dynamite or Banana's ...

Who's with me in longing for the days of mysteries and magic... just a little?

That' actually a pretty interesting thought. Isn't it amazing how a lot of folks are really loosing their mind over that issues. I'm not playing down the tragedy of it all but isn'tit interesting all of the wall to wall coverage, expert analysis, talking heads and armchair air traffic controllers chiming in? It's almost like in this instance there are too many theories to keep it mysteriously interesting.

Brad Meltzer covered DB Cooper on his show he use to have on History Channel.

Just heard about this recently... have you heard the conspiracy theory about the Titanic-Olympic insurance scam?

Dude! They just found an ocean of water under Enceladus that maybe a more likely place to find life in our solar system than Europa!
New measurements by Nasa's Cassini probe suggest Saturn's moon Enceladus hides a mass of liquid water as big as Lake Superior under its icy surface.

To me I think a major problem with those other types of mysteries is that there aren't a lot of ways to move those forward. In the case of something like The Bermuda Triangle once people gathered more evidence the data showed there was nothing unique about the area. The mystery was only caused by misinformation.

The mysteries that compel me now are the ones that grow and become more interesting as we learn more.

Without meaning to sound insensitive I don't get the Malaysian flight tragedy. I did not get why it's so interesting to some people for days on end. Until they find something I don't see how any news on that tragedy was worthy of an update.

Simple answer Brazoo the 24 hour news cycle with mutiple networks devted to news they need to fill the space. The fact that it is missing and may have been a hijacking only increases the salciousness of a lost aircraft. Same thing when all these cruise ships had their accidents and issue that's all we heard about for weeks unitl something Juicier happens. Because IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS

I always thought Duck Tales (wo-oo) had the best take of what the Bermuda Triangle was, a giant patch of seaweed in the middle of the ocean that ships just get stuck in. Anyone remember that episode?
"Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."

Ugh, don't get me started on Ghosthunters. Those guys couldn't find a ghost if they were standing right in front of Gozer. Same with all those Bigfoot shows. Forget them finding a supposedly shy elusive Cryptid in the middle of a vast wooded area. The people on those shows would be lucky to find a bear in a zoo with a map and directions.

I guess just have no taste for the fake reality of reality tv.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yeah, I miss that more innocent era.
I remember watching so many shows as a kid about the search for Bigfoot, Nessie, Mokele-Mbembe, the Jersey Devil, and lots of other mysterious creatures. As well as UFO shows, the Bermuda Triangle, etc.
The shows these days that deal with similar subjects are just nowhere near as cool.

And regarding the Titanic, I remember the book & movie "Raise the Titanic", in which they raised the ship to the surface intact!
That was obviously before it was eventually discovered that she'd broken in half as she went down.

The downfall of 24hr news channels, you have to fill the time and if there is only 1 really big news item going then you get 100's of "experts" in for their oppinions.

In search of... (you name it)

                              and...

                              Unsolved Mysteries

Those two were great series. I still love shows/documentaries such as these. Though, the more recent seem to have lost the "charm" of the earlier.
