I admit it, I've done this, and I know the word you're referring to!

When I was a kid I used to sing "Boogie Up and Dance" instead of "Boogie Wonderland".

Reading the lyrics is kind of like the directions to put something together. Who ever does that? That kind of takes all of the fun out of it.

You beat me to it! That is the one I was going to say as well. I thought for the longest time as a kid that was what Jimmi was singing in that song. The first time I heard that song I was like what?!? I never was a big fan of him because of that misinterpretation. I used to think that he was kind of funny if you know what I mean. Long since that time of course I have come to know better and know what the song lyrics is actually about.

Yeah even Tony Kornheiser from PTI admitted on his old radio show he was tripped up by those lyrics as well.

I think there was some urban legend about Hendrix walking over to some guy in the front row and kissing him on the forehead.

How about "Blinded by the Light" - the real lyric is "wrapped up like a deuce" but I've heard many a wrong word on that one.

Another one that's fun to hear other people sing (if they don't know the actual lyrics as printed on the album) is Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

    "I shot a moose, shot a moose"

instead of the actual "scaramouch, scaramouch"

"B -as in Bob" instead of the correct "Beelzebub".

So I told a few people and they told a few people and years later
it was voted as the most Misheard Lyric in the Uk anyway.
It was even mentioned on Top of The Pops 2.
