    Double taxation?

I'd like some other opinions about this...I live in one city and work in another. The city I work in has a higher tax rate than the one I live in, and for the last nine years I was allowed to credit what was withheld from where I work to where I live. The city I live in always kept the overpayments.

Now all of a sudden, the city where I live says they are no longer crediting taxes paid to the city where I work, and they want me to pay them again, even though that tax was already withheld from my wages.
So basically they are requiring me to pay money I've already paid. How is that not double taxation, which is supposed to be illegal?

Keep in mind, the city council where I live has a history of pushing through all kinds of laws, legal, constitutional or otherwise without putting them on the ballot for voters to decide.

Sounds like a double-dip to me if your talking occupation taxes I've only ever been taxed in the city I worked.

Do you mean "supposed to be" in the sense of it is morality or fairness? Because I don't know of anything against the law in the sort of double taxation you are describing... as much as it may suck.

usually the local earning tax and the locality tax get reported via state tax filing and it becomes partr of your potential tax refund at state level

I talked to an accountant...apparently it's perfectly legal in Ohio. Just like "at will" employment, which says you can be fired for any reason, or no reason at all. Ohio laws suck.

Um, at-will employment is not unique to Ohio....all states recognize it. Some states have limitations or modifications however.
