How I Met Your Mother finale

I think I didn't watch it because they lost me years ago. I am glad that what's-his-face ended up with what's-her-face, but I could see how that would irk the people who stayed along for the whole ride. Kinda like that lost season of Dallas. -

Likewise. And the weird thing is I like Hannigan, NPH, etc, but the show fell completely flat for me whenever I tried to watch.Last edited by Sideshow Spock; Apr 3, '14, 2:37 PM.Comment

For me it's shocking to realize that I've watched this show for nine full years, but never gave an episode my full attention in all that time. It was always just on while I was working on the laptop or making customs or on the bike.
I liked the finale well enough (somewhere amidst my general indifference), but can see why those who actually devoted themselves to the series might be upset. It's obvious that they committed to this ending very early on (given that this was shot while the kids in the wraparound were still young), and the success and longevity of the show worked against that ending. I don't think they would be so divided if this was the ending following the fourth or fifth season. It didn't help that Jason Seigel obviously shot all his stuff for the bulk of this final season separately so that he could go work on whatever movie he's doing.
Bravo for attempting something daring for the last season (having it all take place over a week or so), but it ultimately seemed inconsequential (which I guess you can describe the series as a whole).Last edited by samurainoir; Apr 3, '14, 2:27 PM.Comment

The Big Bang rules.
I don't know why some of you dislike the show, it has all the nerd geeky elements that we all appreciate, love for Star Wars and Star Trek, Dr Who, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, etc. Except Babylon 5, which Seldon finds derivative, lol.
They all hang out at the comic book shop...and heck...even a Mego Spock was featured.
How can you not like Dr Sheldon Cooper, a cross between C3PO and Pee Wee Herman, lol.
I love me some Big Bang!
Oh, staying on topic, never got into How I Met Your Mother, it was a well made show, but it just didn't grab me enough to make me a regular viewer.sigpicComment

When Sheldon kissed Amy, that was so unlike the character, and the turning point to almost losing me as a viewer, but I'll stick around until the series finale.sigpicComment

I don't understand the mad-on some people have for the show. In nerd circles, it seems you either love it, or want to kill anyone who does.

I like both shows, but really as a casual viewer. I wasn't emotionally invested enough in How I Met Your Mother to feel betrayed by it like some of the critics and ardent fans were.
After reading reviews and some blog posts, I get why some were upset, but honestly the final show kind of worked for me.
The scene with Ted and the mother at a rainy train station was really great. Ton of chemistry there. And that might have been the best place to end the show, as many critics have suggested.
But, the way the two main characters got together at the end, allowed Ted to have a family, which he could not have had with Robin, who was infertile, and also allowed Robin to establish a great career without it interfering with their relationship like it did with her marriage to Barney. Both got what they wanted most and then in the end got each other. Romantic.
After nine seasons that may not jibe with all the episodes, but for a casual viewer like me, I enjoyed it for what it was.
As for the Big Bang Theory, I like it. The cast works well together and their chemistry makes the show go. Sheldon is a good TV character, but like Fonzie or Gomer Pyle or Mork is wearing more and more thin as the basic joke gets older and older. There are still laughs there, but as others have pointed out, the show has seen its better days.Last edited by madmarva; Apr 3, '14, 8:01 PM.Comment
