Did/Does anybody here like the Sex Pistols ?

Back in the day it seemed like anybody who was cool SAID they liked the Sex Pistols.

That's all well and good except I never actually heard any SP music on when they were listening to their boom boxes, car stereos etc.

Was saying you liked the SP just a cool status thing ?

On the other hand the KISS crowd left no question if they really liked KISS

Going back to the SP I tried to get into them but just couldn't... Their lyrics were interesting but their music left a lot to be desired.

The Ramones on the other hand had it all imo.

    So whatcha think ?

Did YOU like the SP ?

I didn't listen to them at the time (at their peak I was a ten year old KISS fan who probably barely knew about the Pistols) but I like them well enough now, and appreciate their place in music history. I'm more of a fan of The Clash and The Damned though, but the whole UK punk era really interests me.

They are easily one of the worst punk bands from the 70's just because of Sid and John. Now the original bass player Glen was terrific in Rich Kids. Drummer and guitar players Cook and Jones were pretty good in The Professionals. But yeah it was all about the image and the name, not the music. There were so many better punk bands back then like Generation X, Slaughter and the Dogs, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Jam I could go on for a while but you know.

Well when I got into punk and hardcore in the mid 80's when I was about 14 I got a big collection from a older guy on my street (who was becoming a deadhead). There were alot of sex pistols vinyls in there which are probably worth a small fortune today. I liked them for their place in history and their image which was probably shocking back in the late 70's but their music was always so so.
Bands like The Exploited, Discharge, GBH that was and to this day is more my style!

I got in some serious trouble for singing "Anarchy in the UK" at my grade school as a kid. I'm not 100% as to how i ever heard it, possibly in a movie.

Always loved them but I love the Ramones a whole bunch more.

I liked them as a kid. More of a Ramones guy though.

I had the benefit of having a pretty cool older sister who introduced me to a lot of different stuff at a young age. I got my first "punk rock" mixtape in grade 6 and was introduced to everything from sigue sigue sputnik to the Dead Kennedys to the Smiths to the Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols definitely made an impression on me at the time. My grade 7 school photo has as much of Johnny Rottens ugly face in as mine from a cheap head shop tee I bought. All in all I think they were a great introductory band to punk rock, I'll still listen to them from time to time, but wouldn't consider them to be all time faves (more of an '77 punk fan as well as early hardcore).

Loved them as a kid, love them now.

For a band that only released one proper album, their influence has been immeasurable.

Never Mind The Bollocks has more than stood the test of time. 37 years after it's release, it still sounds great to me. I think it holds up so well because at it's heart, it's simply a kickass Rock & Roll record. Nothing but guitars and drums.

Well my avatar does say "No Future"…

Ursus & Lydon calling out the failed species; damn it really was fun growing up a punk rock kid. Wearing my Sid Vicious "I am a Dog" monster print-T from Burning Airlines UK mail order to school back in the day was a blast!
