Ive seen GWAR many times since the late 80's before they were big up until last year. They always put on a good live show and NEVER sold out or gave a **** what anyone thought of them! Ive meet and hung out with Dave Brockie several times over the years and he was always very nice and down to earth. No rockstar attitude at all. Totally bummed about his passing..:

Gwar was the single loudest band I've ever seen. I think I saw them in '91 at Toronto's Concert Hall. I recall purposely buying/wearing a brand new all white t-shirt to the show. It was completely red ( actually kinda pinkish) the next day. I never tried to wash it but hung it on the wall with a review of the show. I'll have to see if I can dig it up off the net. Oh, also the ceiling of the concert hall was forever stained pinkish red after that show too. Not sure if they got in trouble for it.

Brockie lived here in Richmond. Not my typical musical taste, but I always admired GWAR and their creative flair.

Last year we had this culture expo downtown to showcase the arts. They gave you an allotment of "art bucks" that you could use to donate to the organizations you felt worthy. There were little tables setup for independent theaters, inner city art programs, dance companies, the independent radio station, etc. And then there was Oderus, walking around the expo in his full garb.

At one point, some group promoting Latin American arts started parading around this giant 10 foot tall paper machier figure of Frida Kahlo. So you have all these little nice NPR listening families and activities, and coming down the aisle in one direction is a gigantic monstrous Frida Kahlo. Comin the other way down the aisle is a hellspawn demon from GWAR. It was one of the most surreal things I ever witnessed in my life.
