I think my Timex Datalink is in the bottom of my dresser if you want it Sam.
I have looked at buying a Pebble or some such after my iPod Nano on a watch band turned out to be a bust with virtually no additional apps beyond the Nike app. But now this Android Wear promises a lot more. I'll be waiting to see ...

What would I do with it that I can't just wait to do with my phone later? I mean I really don't know, I'm not being snarky. My wife bought me an Oakley judge 2 watch a couple of years ago and I love it. I'll have to learn more about these to see if one is even necessary. I can't imagine being as plugged in as the people in the commercial. I don't really want people to know where I am or what I'm doing, much less what my dang e.t.a. is. Okay I got a little snarky there at the end. Something about all this face booking and checking in and sharing likes kind of scares me a little. I'm a school teacher and I see kids OBSESSED with this lifestyle and it bothers me. It could be the change to a newer generation but these kids are like Gollum with the precious. Any of you folks here on the boards with teenagers will know what I'm talking about. There may be nothing wrong with it (as a lifestyle) and I can't put my finger on it but it bothers me significantly.Comment

Slightly off topic as they are not necessarily smart but ...
... my OTHER addiction.

I had someone try to convince me the other day that I should get a Pebble based on my complaint about not seeing iPhone messages/texts when it's in sleep mode. I looked into it, but really couldn't justify spending $249 on a watch that syncs with my phone and displays some stuff. That's more than I spent on all 4 of the phones on my family plan. Plus, I don't like wearing a watch at work while I'm trying to type. If the watch did something truly amazing that my iPhone couldn't do and I couldn't live without, I'd think about it. I think I'm going to wait and see with this kind of technology.
For some folks who really need to be dialed-in (no pun intended) to their phones, but don't want to be checking it constantly when it's in their pocket, I guess it makes sense to see who's e-mailing/calling/texting you so you can decide to act or ignore each message. I'm not that beholden to my phone, so I'd rather drop the $249 on an older Seiko Diver watch or about 20 or so vintage Swatches.Comment

Ask anyone who knows me - I am Mr. Tech. I always have to have the newest tech toy. I was first in line at the mall the day the first iPhone was released and I would have camped all night or for days to get an iPad when the first one was released (thankfully Apple had them shipped so I was able to get one from UPS on release day). However, I have absolutely ZERO interest in a smart watch. I'm an old school guy with watches. I'd much rather have my Invicta or Breitling on my wrist.Comment

Yikes, that's like saying my Chevette or Aston Martin ...Then again, I shouldn't throw stones in glass houses as I do own a Swiss Legend that is neither Swiss nor legendary.
I agree that the watch would have to REALLY provide something compelling over just fishing my phone out of my pocket. I was a devote Blackberry man and it wasn't until I was forced to switch to another phone due to work that I started using my phone for entertainment rather than just business. I now stream out of market hockey games and other goofy things like that. So what is the smart watch on my wrist going to do that my phone in the same hand can't?
I'd rather be like megoapesnut and have a nice mechanical time piece on the wrist. Unless, as I mentioned, that smart watch does something extra ordinary.

Well, I've just signed up for the Disney Avengers Marathon today... wanting something that can replace my old "chocolate bar" wrist mounted Garmin I used for various cross training half a decade ago. Hands free stuff for running/riding/skating distance. GPS. Need to look into heart rate monitor straps and apps I can synch up. Virtual running "partner", maps, laps, speed/distance pacing tools etc.
Plugging earphones into it to listen to podcasts/music on long run/ride would be a bonus to the Nano I used to wear on an armband in addition to the Garmin.Comment

Not a SmartWatch, but since you were talking about hands-free monitors...I've been patiently waiting for this to come to market:
