ebay - "shotgun" bidding possibly no more

I have not really had to actually bid on anything via Ebay for a very long time now since most offer a buy it now option. Just had to use a bid for something and I noticed EBAY no longer allows you to put a max bid, so to speak. You can enter a max number but ebay will auto bid for you.

Now as most of us know the many shotgun last second bidding wars that can occur. I am wondering if this new design in some way will thwart that? Will it still bid instantly in the last few milliseconds or does the auto bid not work in this way? Or is it the same as always but they just changed the terms and layout?

It has been that way for awhile and it really doesn't change anything, just a different interface, at least from what I have noticed. Bid snipping still goes on at the same rate.

Something changed? Seems the way it always has been.

Ebay has always done that. Say starting bid is 99 cents. If person A bids $5.00 and person B bids $50, the price of the item will show something like $5.25. Ebay bids on behalf of the high bidder only increasing the bid to the next highest increment.

Thank you (and the others). I was assuming it might be just a new layout for the same method but you never know anymore
