What's the going rate for allowance these days?

I know it's getting a bit off subject but my parents used to go old school on me. Sometimes I had to go pull the branch off the tree that I was going to get whacked with....physical and psychological torture.

As a parent, I'm not a spanker. I don't think my parents did anything wrong. I have just found that taking away a priviledge that is really important to my children for a period of time as a form of punishment to be much more effective than spanking.

I'm not making any comments on whether I think spanking is right or wrong....it's just not in me to treat my kids that way.

$5 to $10 is very fair.
My daughter (6) does her chores for stickers.
She has a chart on her bedroom door, and she really looks forward to completing her tasks and earning a sticker.
She has learned responsibility at an early age without any monetary attached.
Too bad the "sticker strategy" won't last much longer.
