    Celebrity internet death hoaxes

There was 2 hoaxes in the last few days that had to be quashed by the target.

One was that Chumlee guy from Pawn Stars died from a heart attack. He had to tweat to assure he was okay.

The other was Wayne Knight (Seinfeld's Newman) getting killed in a crash with a tractor trailer. He had to confirm he was alright too.

You might remember a little while ago that Bon Jovi had to make a statement when a story began to spread that he died.

This is the real problem when people use social media as a source of news

Knock it all you want, but I couldn't live in a world where I couldn't get minute-by-minute Kardashian updates.

Well, Plenty of stars have been killed by the rumor mill in recent years -- some more than once. Some falsities find their origin in fake news sites, which require only a few tweets or Facebook shares before panic spreads. Other "deaths" are less deliberate, finding their origin in confusing hashtags that soon become messages of mourning.

Although, as silly as they seem, some fatal rumors cause panic among stars' families and fans. Well, expect more celebrity death hoaxes to come. LOL

I was so hoping when I heard about Robin Williams death that it was just an internet hoax. Sadly it was not.

I'm curious as to when they started. I recall there were a few hoaxs in the early 90's about Kurt Cobain dying before he actually did. And I recall it was to the point where I didn't give it a second thought and just assumed that it was just another hoax.

Recently I was briefly fooled going the other way - someone on Facebook posted that Tommy Ramone died, and I didn't want to post anything and spread the rumor further without confirming it, but there wasn't much online yet - the only article I found was one that said the death was a hoax - but a little later I realized that that article was the hoax.

There are some very sad and sick people out there.

                          Chumlee is a celebrity?

Great example of how in today's day and age, practically anything and anybody can become a celebrity.
