My parents and our neighbors were forced to sell their homes, back in the late 70's, so an old folks home could be built. We lived on a hill on the outskirts of town with no public transportation, we still don't, but that didn't keep them from wanting the land. There were several meetings on where to build this home and no residents wanted it so far away from town but the politicians had the vote and needless to say we were forced to move due to imminent domain. This was back when the interest rates had skyrocketed so my parents got very little for the home and then ended up with a mortgage that had a high interest rate. I'm still bitter to this day on what happened in the name of progress!
