When you talk about EBay not giving any seller protection... I'd have to agree with that if you've done what you say you've done and challenged EBay's staff accordingly.

I mean, what more of a "good faith" representation could EBay ask for with a seller like you who is stuck with buyers who do not resolve things properly, YET a seller who notes HOW to resolve things properly on their auctions, with a Feedback reply history that indicates that you did the BEST you could to honor such promised resolutions, yet gets negatives from IGNORANT buyers, while still racking up a huge amount of other feedback which is GREAT, POSITIVE feedback from buyers that had no problems?

As twisted as it sounds I almost feel like wed be better off if we all just gave zero stars for every transaction. Eventually everyone would be banned and eBay would go belly up. Probably a benefit in the long run.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

As someone who has to ship product regularly to Canada from the US the problem with the additional expense is due almost entirely to the Canadian customs side of the process. Every package and its paperwork has the be checked and processed by hand by someone as it enters your country. This means that every shipping company which brings packages into Canada has to have a considerable number of special people dedicated to doing nothing but working with the Canadian customs department exclusively and in turn that cost is passed on to every single package which is sent across the border.

Example: A 15 pound Fedex ground package going to a US location just south of the border might run me about $18 to ship while if it is going just 15 miles further north across the border that same package now costs $47. A similar upcharge is added by every single carrier (UPS, Postal Service, Etc.).

Conversely, the US doesn't force the same degree of scrutiny to packages inbound from Canada or Mexico and thus the shipping companies do not have charge Canadian shippers an added, hidden fee for US deliveries.
OUCH....not sure about the statement ,but many past parcels have come through quickly ...One nice thing about ebutt ..many sellers will recheck the postage cost ...many costs have gone up everywhere -CANADA / USA -....ohhh well if I can it locally its a plus for me ...Lastly,I never ever accept UPS,FEDEX,etc as they charge super high broker fees...so not to sure if CANADA is to blame for that ...hmmmm

        PEACE OUTT

Same thing happened to me. After 5 or 6 years i got permanently banned over one, yes one, transaction in which i refunded the person 100% of their price. i domt want to go into it as i have spend hours and hours on the phone tryng to fix it. Its ridiculous. I have over 2800 postives and like 2 negatives over that time but it was a percentage thing. So i opened a new account using my middle name etc and they shut it down within a day. Screw ebay. Somene has to come up with a better place to sell, but as long as we all buy from there it will remain the big site.

Amazon is changing now. They do have a lot more than books and cds now. It is an option.

It's been a couple of weeks and after another couple of hours on the phone with eBay nothing has changed. They told me that is is basically a one year suspension as it takes a year for the issues to work out of the account. This is simple mismanagement on behalf of ebay. has created a system where the people who actually pay the bills over there get penalized by bad customers.

...is actually pretty alarming, as I'd like to get into the "Ebay seller" game, and this does not sound promising... even in the "worst case scenario" context I was reaching for.

I keep waiting for Ebay to hire Lily Tomlin as their spokesperson..."We Don't Care. We Don't Have To. We're Ebay!"

I stopped selling on Ebay completely, and like j'storm went back to local consignment outlets when/if I choose to sell something.

I avoid purchasing on Ebay as much as possible too, I only buy what I absolutely cannot find elsewhere and feel I "must" have. Even then, I often end up disappointed because the selection just isn't there. I've noticed over the last several years that the selection in general has become very thin. They've squeezed out too many of the sellers who made Ebay an interesting place to visit.

It reminds me of what happened to most of the local swap meets here in So Cal in the mid 80's. What used to be jam-packed with individual spaces loaded with cool stuff offered up by people who were clearing out their personal excess, turned into a market place full of imported knock-off toys, socks, underwear, cheap furniture & miscellaneous krap.

The property owners started leasing out their spaces in blocks to retailers, which left fewer spaces available for the one-offs. The result was row after row of the same merchandise, week after week, month after month, year after year. Stopped going altogether in the early to mid 90's when less than 10% of the sellers had something interesting to offer. Discovered Ebay not too long after that.

I'm hopeful that a reasonable alternative to Ebay is just around the corner. There are far too many stories out there just like yours to go unnoticed. The need is there, it's just a matter of time before someone steps up to the plate. I think the mission statement for that new kid on the block should be something like, "EBAY! It's Clobberin' Time!"

I see that same thing at flea markets around this area too. The main area is crowded with regulars selling bootleg socks and discount detergent, boxes of razor blades and deodorant of dubious origin. And the guys selling their odds & ends are regulated to the grass and muddy outlying areas along the edges. Gotta wonder just how many low quality Bob Marley blankets these sellers can really move? Does anyone actually buy those dancing flower thingees?

Just thought I'd share this with all of you who want to see what dealing with eBay can be like. Here is the email that I received (with some commentary by me in brackets)

                      Hello [eBay id],

After reviewing your eBay account, we have concerns about your selling activity. [selling activity? This was a BRAND NEW account!] As a result we've taken the following actions on your account:
                      - Selling privileges have been indefinitely restricted. You won't be able to list new items. You're also not allowed to register a new account.
                      - Some or all of your listings may have been removed. A list of any removed items will be listed further down in this email.
                      - We have credited all associated fees except for the final value fee for your listing(s). [what a surprise! They don't credit back the money they took! just any further potential for me to make any!]

Our decision is based on evidence from our records and our goal to keep eBay a safer place for buyers and sellers. We're not comfortable with your selling practices or business model, and we feel they don't help to promote a positive buying and selling environment. [how do they know what my business model is? further they were comfortable taking tens of thousands of dollars in fees from my 'business practices' over the past several years!]

Even though you can't sell on our website, you can still use your account to buy or bid on items. [oh yeah, you cant sell but you can continue to support our f'd up format!] For more information on the basics of buying, please visit:

                      You can also:
                      - Send email
                      - Obtain shipping addresses
                      - Leave Feedback
                      - Perform other administrative tasks

Please remember that you can't use other accounts or register new accounts to sell on eBay. If you do, your accounts could be limited, restricted, or suspended.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. [I DO NOT understand nor do I agree, and you've restricted my ability to do anything, that's not called cooperation]

Thanks, [If you were truly 'thankful' you would get the crap out of your ears and listen to what is going on here!]

                      eBay

Please don't reply to this message. It was sent from an address that doesn't accept incoming email. [figures, you wouldn't want anyone to reply as that would require you to do that aforementioned 'listening']
