Anyone here ever lose his or her "toy collecting spirit"?

I don't know what it is, but these days I have a very hard time getting excited about toys.
    And that worries me.
Maybe it's because I've been actively collecting for 36 years now. And I have tons of figures.
Maybe it's because there's so much stuff out there these days.

But honestly, if someone were to give me a carded Iron Man, I'd probably go "ok", and put it on the pile.

I feel like I've lost my mojo...

I've kind of lost it for a lot of modern toys, esp. non Mego-type stuff. Very few things from this Toy Fair made me say "I need that!" A few years back, it was a laundry list.

There's a few people I know who have lost interest,I spoke to our very own BonkersHead,he said that he has lost the interest in his toy collection and getting out of the game,it's a shame really,he has been selling alot of his stuff on ebay.

I can't say I have lost my Mojo,I still get excited over any new reMego stuff and always on the lookout for more Mego stuff and I'm even having ago at a Mego custom (wish me luck).

Personally,I just don't really like the new toys what are out, although sum of the Star Wars Black series of figures have caught my eye.

I haven't lost my overall enthusiasm for collecting, but I have another issue lately. I collect a lot of "designer toys" with limited drops, and getting them can get pretty stressful. If you don't beat out the hordes on sale day, there's no choice but to pay the ridiculous eBay prices if you really want the piece. I'm beginning to think that the words toy collecting and stressful shouldn't be mentioned on the same sentence.

Yep, going through that now, I'll go into a Toy store and leave empty handed, Captain Action figures gave me a little boost
and a few of the new Mego like figures, but even that seems joyless to me....I never bothered to get the Batman 66 toys, maybe when the Mego like ones come out I might get excited......

I got overwhelmed a few years ago. I decided to concentrate mainly on customs. That has worked for me. Everyone is different. But maybe you can find a sweet spot and concentrate on it.

It's hard to maintain enthusiasm over a long period of time for just about anything. Maybe take a break for a while. That might recharge your interest.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't say that I've ever lost that spirit, and I really hope you find yours again. It's my inner child that keeps me sane in this crazy world.

I know how you feel. I lost my enthusiasm towards toy collecting when my buddy passed away. He was the one that I would call when a new toy came in because he understood the feeling. When he passed away, a part of that died in me as well.I also have been collecting for a while now. Its been getting easier to let go of some of the toys I used to love. I cant ever fully get out of collecting because of the memories it holds for me.

Sounds like it may be time to sell of some of your stuff, make some room and money at the same time. A full pocket and an empty wall could create the "spark" you are missing.

I haven't lost my collecting spirit but it has calmed dramatically since I grabbed one of my grails. As a result I've moved my energy into a different aspect of toy collecting, producing a vintage toy show, something I couldn't have done a year ago because of all my endless searching...

I haven't lost my interest, but I've collected more vintage Mego than I ever thought possible. I'm still excited to try to nab a few rarities, as well as focus on Big Jim, SMDM, & AT GI Joe and give some love to customs & remego.

But I don't feel as manic as when "I need a Batgirl!" lol.

That was me last year. Up until I got the FTC Joker I thought all was indeed lost. Now with Series 1 completely rounded out I've gotten very excited about collecting again. The Big Bang Theory, some of the KISS figures and the Michael Keaton / Christopher Reeve figures are another win for me in building the anticipation.

I think it happens to everyone at some point or other. I go through cycles where I will be excited and gung ho on collecting, spend a ton of money and then get burned out on collecting and back off for a few months. sometimes during those periods I sell off excess stuff. it's kind of cleansing actually. I am in slow down mode right now too. maybe it is the time of year, I don't know

I haven't collected anything new since around the time of the disappointment that was the second coming of Star Wars. Thank god I got off that sinking ship before it was too late. I think it was the first Heman relaunch that did it for me for good though. I was really excited about it when they first his and scoured every KB looking for the newest release and then the line got canceled and I got annoyed. A few years later they released the Classic line with futuristic prices and I thought for that kind of money I could buy the old stuff and then some. Nowadays though I've mostly exhausted all the old toys I've always wanted. I've hit just about every grail and outside of one or two items, there's not a whole lot I'm looking for. Still the thrill of finding something awesome at a flea market is totally there on the few occasions that I come across something.

I've found my searching for vintage has dropped since the reMegos came out. I much more enjoy getting the new stuff, opening it a playing with the kids.
                              It's all good!
