Snow days in the South

Yep, it's true. It's going to snow here in the deep South tomorrow and Wednesday. We are expected to get up to 3" here (not a lot for up North but for here is might as well be 3 feet). It's even suppose to snow as far south as the AL/FL line with FL getting freezing rain. Schools are already closed for the next 2 days and I'm guessing all the state offices are closed as well. People have been told not to get out in it.

I always find it funny how my state reacts when it does actually snow. They really do freak out. But I know they are only doing it to keep people safe. We just do not have the equipment to remove snow much less anywhere to take it. So we throw sand on the bridges and overpasses and hope for the best. The other reason I'm sure of is people here can't drive when it's raining much less in snow. I spent some winter months in Boston back in the 90's and learned how to drive in snow with it blowing everywhere. There is now way these people here could handle it. We'll see how many venture out and end up in the ditch.

It seems like we do. It was on the news people what people were buying. Home Depot was out of generators and outside faucet covers. Store shelves were bare of milk, bread and batteries.

Yep, that sounds about like here. Expecting 1 to 2 inches in upstate SC.

Outdoor faucet covers? Once again, this site has made me Google something I have never heard of before. May I ask why someone wouldn't just drain their faucets.

Here in West Michigan, we are just hoping for the lake to finally freeze over and end this snow. We have run out of places to plow the stuff. I have lost my fences and birdfeeders under it all. Enough already!

The sun is shinning here in Northern Lower Michigan. Sky is blue. It's a comfortable -5 F. The snow in my front yard is nearly up to my waist, (I'm 6'2"). To echo Rallygirl, I can't wait for the lakes to freeze over so this lake effect nonsense will stop.

Yeah, I had never heard of those covers either. Up north we just drain the outside taps and turn off their water supply when it starts getting cold. I guess they usually don't need to do that down south.

We use the outside faucet covers here in the NW as well.

The sleet-snow isn't going to hit Warner Robins until about 3:00. Schools were closed today and will be closed tomorrow. If the snowfall reaches the upper estimates, I suspect schools will be closed Thursday too.

The water supply for them is the same as the entire house. If we shut it off we'd have no water at all. Hence, the faucet covers to keep the wind and cold out so they don't freeze and burst.

The ice rain is actually now turning to real snow here and the ground and roof tops are starting to turn white. Most of the major roads, interstates and bridges are closed now.
