    Chickenpox at 44 years old

Yep. My brother got Chickenpox and I got it too. We live under the same roof as well as my Father but for some reason he did not catch it even tho I interact very little with my brother and much more with my Father. I am also grateful it wasn't shingles instead. My Father went and cot a booster shot so he won't get shingles.

My brother got confirmed Sat. but was sick before the spots appeared. He felt so ill, (abdominable cramps), he went to the ER early in the AM last Thurs. I felt under the weather since Wed/Thurs last week but never suspected this would happen. My breakout occurred last Fri-Sat and I've been home since then. Most of them have broken and scabs have formed but not much in the way of itching. My reaction so far has been very light compared to my brother. I'm very surprised but also think he got it direct from someone and I got it diluted from him. I am well along and nearly out of it but man, this is the last thing I really needed.

Man, it can be bad in adults. Hope you and your brother don't suffer too much.

I had chicken pox early in January 2013. My MIL knew she had shingles during the Christmas season but didn't tell us until December 24 because she didn't think it was any big deal. (And yes, she spent all of the shopping season gallivanting from store to store while she had shingles) I explained that I had never had chicken pox and was susceptible. She refused to believe me and got unbelievably, run-away-from-home mad because I postponed our family Christmas until she was better. We then planned on celebrating our Christmas on New Year's, but it was already too late and surprise, surprise, surprise, I got chicken pox for a New Year's "gift". She and my SIL then actually accused me faking chicken pox out of spite. They didn't speak to me for more than a month. I love my in-laws, I love my in-laws, I love my in-laws.

Ugh, sorry to hear that man. As a kid I had chickenpox, and a couple of years ago shingles.

Don't they have a vaccine now?

I have had it mildly. Not much itching. Not as red sores as my brother. My brother has had more swelling in his throat, coughing and nasal problems. Mine were faster to get to white-tipped and truthfully, tho you're not supossed to force them to burst I took a tooth-pick and punctured them open and dabbed them with a tissue. I was getting really tired of a sticky/crusty face. My Doctor prescribed an antibiotic called Valacyclovir. My Father had heard of Acyclovir and this is similar.

CP can be bad in adults. Get well soon. My Dad and his sister have had shingles. It was the worst thing ever. And since I'm a carbon copy of my father I fully expect to have it in 20 years. Thanks Dad.

Sorry to hear that. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Scott, you can get a shot to prevent it. Check with your doctor. My Father lives at home with us and he didn't get it and my brother told him to go get a shot. It looks unlikely he will come down with it now.
