    Strange Demographic Questions

Strange for a toy forum, but I'm trying to better focus my recruiting efforts.

1- Do you live within 3 hours of where you grew up?

2-If you do, would you move?

3-Again if you do, how important is that location in deciding about possibly moving? (vs new job, romance, etc.)
    WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

    1 - Nope, couldn't wait to leave
    2/3 - N/A

I think where I live now is much better than where I grew up and couldn't imagine going back. However, my parents also moved away from where we grew up and I am now within driving distance from them (less than 5 hours), so there is really no reason to go back to my hometown.

        1. yes. moved back after being gone for 8 years (from exactly 3 hours away)
        2. not until my kids were out of high school (another 9 years)
        3. the location is important, but other factors could prevail.
        Fresh, not from concentrate.

          1. Yes. I live in my home county, actually, and work in my hometown.

          2. I would, but it would have to be for a good reason.

          3. It would have to be a major lifestyle change (in other words, a boatload of cash, and/or a dream job) for me to move out of this area.

What can I say, I'm an old homebody.

            1. Yes. Born in Oakland (1962), but right after birth, moved to Union City/Alvarado (62-70)...about 20 miles away. Then Mexico for six or so years (70-76)...then back to Oakland (76-present).

            2. I love Oakland despite its troubles (but what city doesn't). But sister and I are considering a move north to either Oregon or Washington state in our golden years, we both want the option of Death with Dignity Act if we are terminally ill. We have seen some of our loved ones wither away slowly from cancer...not for us, fudge that.

            3. See above.

              1. I've lived in the Toronto area my whole life (though for a while my family moved just outside it's borders.)

              2. Probably not. I like being close to my family, and for better or worse I feel at home here. Lots of places look better on the surface to me, but I think every place has it's problems.

              3. If an insanely great work opportunity came up that might factor in. Hard to say. It's not likely though.

                1. no

not part of the question but with immediate family ensconced where we are in our lives, I couldn't imagine moving now....

And thanks, all. So far, this is reinforcing something I'm seeing. Of course, there is no wrong or right here.

Thanks. I was trying to figure it out....

So, you are hiring and are trying to get a feel for how people feel about relocating?

I would think that anyone in a tv journalism/weatherman/sports/etc field would already be resolved to the fact that they will probably have to relocate, and most likely, always could be on the move. Seems like that would come with the territory.

My daughter started for a communications degree thinking about tv journalism but changed to education when she decided she didn't want to move away.

For survey purposes, I am going on fifty and have lived in a 10 mile radius my whole life. I travel all over the country for work, but have always lived here.
