            let's see....
            Swingtown
            More Than a Feeling
            Seasons in the Sun
            Rhinestone Cowboy
You're in My Heart (The Final Acclaim)
Over the Hills and Far Away (I like it more than Stairway)
Play That Funky Music (The Bass line is awesome!)
Theme to Star Wars (yeah, the disco one....it had a ton of airplay.)
Just about anything off the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack

There's tons more...I get weird looks from my wife when something cool from the 70's comes on and I know the lyrics. (she was born in '80)
It's hard to say how it all affected/influenced me, I guess it all still does.

A few of my 70's era faves, in no particular order:

Hot Child in the City -Nick Gilder
Billy, Don't be a Hero - Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods
The Night Chicago Died - Paper Lace
You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate
Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) - Looking Glass
                  Angie Baby - Helen Reddy
Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks
December 1963 (Oh What a Night) - Four Seasons

And my secret shame, I was a huge fan of anything by Barry Manilow from Mandy to Copacabana. I finally came to my senses in the early 80's.

This thread makes me yearn for the days of the K-tel hit music collections on vinyl.

Back in the 70s, my older twin siblings (Darryl & Drenette), had a lot of musical influence on me. Darryl was all about Motown, The Delfonics, and The Stylistics. Drenette (RIP) had a totally different vibe. She went to school in NYC's Central Park West and she and her friends listened to Seals & Crofts, Donovan, Traffic, Blood, Sweat & Tears, America, and 5th Dimension. So basically, that's the stuff that I listened to. But slowly my tastes emerged, and I listened to a lot of Michael Jackson, David Cassidy, A Taste of Honey, Peter Brown, Heatwave, and a lot of disco!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Wow, some great lists here. Grayhank your list is awesome, and I'm of the same mind on the matter, I could literally list songs all day. The music of the Seventies is definitely my favorite of them all.

I have many favorites but in keeping with the theme of childhood, some of the music that most strongly reminds of me of being a kid in the '70s are...

                              The entire "Grease" soundtrack
The entire "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack
The Spinners- Working My Way Back To You
                              ABBA- Dancing Queen
                              Glen Campbell- Rhinestone Cowboy
Elton John & Kiki Dee- Don't Go Breakin' My Heart
Olivia Newton-John- A little more love
Steely Dan- Reelin' In The Years
Dr. Hook- When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman
Captain & Tenille- Love Will Keep Us Together
                              Carl Douglas- Kung Fu Fighting
Roger Whittaker- The Last Farewell (also known for being WGN Channel 9's "theme" music when I was a child!)
                              Little River Band- Reminiscing
                              10CC- I'm Not In Love

This list could go on and on....

Plus, if you put on KISS "Double Platinum", "Alive II" or "Dressed To Kill" and play them on a red Panasonic 8-track player that's guaranteed to take me right back!
