The ice all came yesterday. We could have skated on our road. Our Church cancelled service but with a free morning, in true hick style, we climbed up in the truck and went 15 miles to town to breakfast, Home Depot, and the auto parts store. Neither rain nor snow, nor sleet nor lack of common sense,....

Today the TV weatherguessers are saying to expect 8 inches of snow on top of that ice. I am sure the trees will LOVE that. I am furiously finishing all my baking and candy making for tomorrow and Wednesday. Damn it, if I will not have a hot Christmas breakfast because of a power outage, then I will, by all means, have caramel corn, peanut butter balls, and cream puffs!

Or I could just double check that the generator is ready to go.

I lucked out randomly and still have power, but consumers energy is predicting the 28th as the general restoration date.
Things got pretty effed around here for a day. It's better now, but large chunks are still in the cold/dark.

spent hours in the car yesterday. Traffic lights were out all over the city still, so getting anywhere was a challenge.

all the ice on top of trees and plants do really look cool at night though.

              Hey hey!
We lost power Sunday morning at 3:45 am. I was just going to bed.
We still have NO power. Going on 50+ hours!
We're keeping warm, I won't say how. Put it this way, we're sleeping in shifts.
All our refrigerated goods are wasted. Insurance deductible on that is $250.00. No point in putting a claim in there.
No hotels available, oh that's right it the holidays!
Can't go to the salvation army with pets. Wouldn't anyway, too many sick people, coughing and hacking.
No generators anywhere. Home depot was to get some in last night, if someone had $700. in there pocket!
People at wally world nearly fighting over any survival gear.
Did get a couple led camping lanterns, $35.00 each. Then batteries.

This was supposed to be a good holiday season. Got a real tree for the first time in 10+ years.

Our estimated restoration is FRIDAY 11:30!

Oh, and it hasn't gone above 24° this entire time!

Gotta admit, it makes for a very pretty Christmas Eve.
Hope everybody has their heat and hydro going by now. Stay safe and warm and have a merry one everybody.

Whaat? That's terrible. I seriously can't imagine living in that temperature. Too bad you can't make a huge ol' bonfire in the backyard. How awful.

Here's to hoping they surprise ya'll and get the power back on sooner than... friday?
Hope you can all hang in there...

                      Hallo!

                      Well we survived this round!
                      Got power back Christmas afternoon!
There is still some people without.
It was a hell of a long week and sure didn't feel like the holidays
Put just the basics in our fridge. Still waiting lists for generators!
Gonna wait until later for that.
