Another Post Office rant...

Problem is...I'm right. I have a perfectly justified reason to be upset. Instead of simply lifting a lid and putting a package in a marked container to keep it safe and dry, the carrier leans it against the wall inches away from said container so it can be rained on for several hours. If it was YOUR package how would you feel then?
Especially after spending time and money trying to make it as easy as possible on the carrier and prevent this very type of thing from happening. All they had to do was USE the bin.
Instead you defend their actions while insulting me for how I choose to open and display my collection?
Whatever.Last edited by enyawd72; Dec 22, '13, 10:10 AM.Comment

The post office does not want to be held liable for a mishap like this.
You calling them idiots is disrespectful just how you feel I insulted you. Doesn't feel too good does it?
by saying you are RIGHT is a huge sign of ignorance.Last edited by RickD; Dec 22, '13, 10:18 AM.Comment

Oh boo hoo. We all work hard. That's not an excuse for not doing your job properly. It was raining when I left for work, and it was raining when I got home. Any person with an ounce of common sense wouldn't have left a package sitting in the rain, especially when I went to a great deal of time and effort making it easy for them NOT to do that very thing.Comment

D--Stop in and introduce yourself and your set-up to the postmaster/mistress, esp. since you've just moved. I live in a small town & Getting to know my carrier & office has been helpful.
Toyman, targeting the specifics of a person's collecting here is tangential & a low-blow IMO. Many here, myself included, have opened things you might not agree with. It's our money, our collections.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

The problem with this logic is that the Bin with "Packages" written on it can be taken any way. You could be collecting packages for a donation to toys for tots or another charity with the neighbors. How would the Postman know exactly what you are doing unless you address the Post office directly??

What more could I POSSIBLY have done? Please enlighten me.Comment

The guy working at the P.O. was actually really nice and very helpful. He gave me a card to fill out for the carrier and even commented on how thoughtful it was of me to provide them with a place to put packages since I don't have a porch or any type of sheltered area outside.Comment

I've had similar experiences.
I have a sign above my mailbox saying "If the item doesn't fit in the slot, please leave a card".
So I get home, and a package (my package) is on the neighbor's doorstep in the rain. Not the first time, too. It's rare, but it happens. I filed a complaint against that mailman, after he kept doing it.
There is no excuse for that, it wasn't even the "busy season".
I live on a busy road, and stuff gets stolen or ruined that way.
I have worked for the Postal Service myself, and my Dad was a 40 year veteran.
They get paid to deliver my property, which I have paid for, and for which they are getting paid. When I worked there, I always respected people's items, because that's the way I want to be treated as well.
If this is too hard for you, leave the Postal Services.
Btw, this thread is no place to be commenting about somebody else's collecting choices. No thread is, actually....

Im thinking that its probably a unhappy postal worker. Probably the best thing to do is put up a small note near the tot AND go to the post office and tell them about the mishap. It was raining and there was a bin so....He could have brought the package at a later date.
Dont make to big deal out of it (I know its annoying, but this time of year is a little tuff for them) just tell them as a precaution so it wont happen again.
Packages can be a variety of things, not just toys. Imagine if it had been important paperwork that couldnt be replaced.Comment

I think that the USPS is not supposed to put packages or mail inside of anything but a mailbox. I remember asking my mailman a few years back why they won't put mail inside of the Newsday box I have and they said it's the rules that they are told to go by the post office. That's most likely the reason they won't put it inside the tote that you provided. They are just following what they are taught not to do."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

But in that case, they should clearly notify the customer that his homemade box isn't acceptable.
Personally, I did make a custom wooden mailbox that could hold a small child.
Not that I ever put one in there, mind you.
Except maybe that annoying kid in number 46...hmmm...let's not talk about that anymore...
Anyway, it could easily hold three to four shoebox size packages at once, and the mailmen did use it..
