A lot of magazines have it printed that Gene Simmons was an actual teacher of a 5th or 6th grade class. In an interview he said that he had a small degree where he could teach children with special needs and he substituted a few times as a 6th grade teacher but it was not a full time teaching job.

Here's an article from 1978 stating that he taught for 6 months as a 6th grade teacher. While it's probable that Gene himself doesn't even know the real truth after 40 years of spinning this yarn, I assume the article from 1978 is probably the most accurate.

They never use the word substitute teacher. They always leave that out because the writer of the article wants us to picture our old haggard, rude, strict, child terror of childhood teachers some of us kids had and picture Gene Simmons in their place. I'll have to look around for the video where he mentions it was a substitute teacher job he took and his other option was taking care of a classroom full-time of children with special needs. I heard it right from his mouth in an interview. Ugh.
