that ws unexpected. I wrote to him of his autograph several years ago and sent him my first D&D boxed set book and a card. He signed both and wrote a great letter about my experiences with it.
We played it religiously in Boy Scouts and at one time it got banned because we would go on scouting trips and do nothing but play D&D. That was the good old days again when there was no computers , stupid SIMS, or even worse Playstations/XBOXs.

I wish I had some health points to give him now , He always played a great game...see you on the other side.

      I'd say I played D&D during the summer of '83 or '84----possibly even '82?

I went to summer camp and this kid who I was friends with until '84
got us into it for a summer---and he was DUNGEON MASTER---and so I have
vague memories of it (For some reason I remember "Orcs"?)

I remember thinking it was fun---I can only imagine the thrill the bigger fans got out of it

      Anyways----RIP

I've been playing D&D since 1982 with very few breaks in the years between. I owe Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson literally months of my life by this point. Playing the game has helped me become an effective narrator and storyteller, which helps me as an illustrator and a fledgling novelist. The game has been a great inspiration to me since the age of 12, and I still play it (third edition, no longer a Gygax product but still based on his concepts) with my wife. Gygax's contribution to popular cultural cannot be overstated.

Thats a real shame. I was really into AD&D from 81-87. I still have all the books, dice, minatures and such. Some great times were had. Rest in peace Gary.

I never played D&D, I heard too many horror stories about fights and immature people ruining the fun of it, and it's just too tedious for me. Still I have'ta hand it to the guy for creating it. It opened up a whole world for people.

The same could be said for kids playing ball on the corner lot.

your age may have played into it too. it got big before the video game system, VCR, or PC was a common household item. I doubt people today would have the patience for it if it was a "new" thing.
