Pumpkin Pie vs Sweet Potato Pie

Mexicans don't eat sweet potato pies (pies are not a Mexican thing to begin with), but they cook them as stand alone desserts...they are served nice and steaming hot, usually with warm milk poured over them on a bowl, like cereal...but I prefer my sweet potato on a separate dish with a tall glass of ice cold milk, lol.Last edited by Hector; Nov 24, '13, 5:54 PM. -
Sweet potato pies are most popular in the South.
Sweet potato, although distantly related to the common potato, they are very different in both texture and taste.
I can see and picture marshmallows in a sweet potato dessert, but it would be weird to have marshmallows in a common potato, true, lol.Leave a comment:

I don't like pumpkin pie and didn't know until I read this that sweet potato pies even existed. Here I go to Google and Wikipedia again. You folks send me there a lot.
p.s. Back from Wikipedia. Did I just read right? People put marshmallows on a potato pie? Wow, the things that happen outside of my little corner of the world.

I know, she gave me one of those sale cards.
You should've return that Safeway pumpkin pie and gotten the Uhuru one, they are so much yummier too.
Glad you sampled the sweet potato one, it's also killer...get one for Christmas.
It's for a good cause too.
Uhuru pies are priced between $20-$25...but the pumpkin is the cheapest priced one at only $13.Leave a comment:

I went to Safeway yesterday for my Thanksgiving shopping, and was really disappointed they had no Sweet potato pies, so I got pumpkin and cherry. My old lady cart (nope, don't have a car) was so full that I couldn't buy the Uhuru Sweet potato pie at the stand outside. I may have to go back b/c I tried a sample and MAN is it good!If I don't have time, it'll just have to wait til Christmas. (they'll be out there again, the lady told me).

I don't do any pies... but my husband requires apple, pumpkin, and lemon meringue. Why *I* am the overweight one makes NO sense!Leave a comment:

Neither!
I like pecan, coconut, key lime, lemon meringue, and chocolate silk, but not pumpkin, apple or sweet potato.Leave a comment:

I like pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Hopefully this year I'll be able to make a pecan pie for Christmas. Yummy!

I like both, but I prefer Pumpkin pie. However, I have a Sweet Potato pie in the fridge right now.
