Over my years here I’ve mentioned a time or two that as a kid my mego’s were primarily Boxers. My brothers and I made our mego’s box. We maintained rankings and had champions and our main game with them consisted of each of us doing a fightcard while the other two watched and clapped, each having our turn.
Thought you guys might enjoy hearing this as you guys are the only friends that I’m telling this to.
On Saturday night, November 30th, I’m heading over to my brother’s place (while his wife is out of the country) and meeting both of my brothers there. I’m bringing a bag of mego’s with me and us three guys (in our 40’s) are going to each do & watch a fightcard. Joining us will be my 13 year old nephew who will no doubt be scarred for life by his Uncle’s immaturity. We’ve been emailing each other back and forth as each of our respective matches are signed. The event is called “Ol’Times Fight Card”.
There’s even a rumor that my oldest brother might kick off the event with his old beat-up Evel Knievel performing a death-defying motorcycle jump!
I might do a Piper’s Pit type of interview segment with Brick Mantooth hosting, called “The Bachelor Pad”. LOL
Anyway, let’s hear your predictions for my five fights:
Main Event: Mego G.I. Joe (WBA/WBC/IBF champ) vs Dr. Steel
Street Fight Challenge: Intruder vs Toughest Cop (a childhood toy I recently posted about and found)
Mattel Lex Luthor (Wrestling Champion) vs Mego Stretch Armstrong
Custom Dr. Doom (debuts) vs Iron Man
Clint McCallum* (returns) vs General Zod
*Clint McCallum was the first custom figure my brothers & I ever made. My oldest brother basically threw a pair of red Big Jim boxing trunks on a LJN Roy Desoto, drew on some sideburns, taped up his hands with toilet paper and clear tape and called him Clint McCallum. Outside of boxing, he was a famous comedian who played a character called “Clutz”. In the ring, he finished his opponents with a right hand called “The Marciano Masher”. He even had a theme song, one of our old 45’s called “I Hear Ya Knockin”. This guy was pretty beat up and I fixed him up especially for this night. My bro’s will be siked to see old Clutz make a comeback!
This is gonna be a nostaligic night. My wife thinks I’m just having a night with the boys and doesn’t know just how crazy we are.
I recently saw a post from Hardygirl about playing with our mego’s as adults and immediately had to share this story. I wish I could stream this event live on skype for you all to watch.
