    Shipping Really LARGE Things

I never shipped anything really massive before. At the last auction I attended, this came up and I threw an impulse bid on it and ended up taking it home for a really low price:

It's made of Bamboo and they auctioned it off as being "Japanese prototype - rare in the USA". I also won a Snoopy rocking horse from Kosuga (Japanese company) so perhaps it was made by them too. I cannot find any info on either and I think eBay is my best bet.

I am afraid if I do local pick up only, it will not sell for much. What are shipping options?

You might have to call a professional shipping company, give them the demensions and weight, and they'll give you a quote based on destination. I would just put that in the auction information if you are selling on ebay. The choices are limited since USPS and UPS ship only up to a certain size. Not sure about DHL though.

I purchased a chair from down south many years ago...cost more to ship that the item sold for.

    Good Luck.

I'd give it a try selling it locally before heading to Ebay. Ebay is not always the best choice. Give CL, local paper and there's always trading post type of papers where people are selling their goods. Place your ad in larger city locations if you're in a smaller town. Don't expect Ebay prices but remember with Ebay you're losing a certain amount right off the bat with their fees then with Paypal and the trouble with shipping and packaging. Give it a try and be patient, maybe the right buyer will come along. I've done this is large 60's and 70's furniture pieces and had some luck. When I have had to ship big pieces I find that usually (not always) that UPS is a bit cheaper. Best of luck on it.

I would, but I have no idea what it's worth. If it really is a Japanese prototype, I'd like to think a die hard Peanuts collector would go nuts for it.

Just a shot in the dark but have you tried to contact any Peanut / Charles Schultz collector sites or forums to see what help they can give you about this piece? Here's one place I found, maybe you can contact them and they can help out? http://www.collectpeanuts.com/wp/
I few years ago I came across a strange large Ronald McDonald beach towel that I couldn't find any info on but contacted a few McDonald's collector sites and they were great to help me out with some info. Again, just a thought so maybe you might know where to start with it or even sale it .......
