    Disney's "Frozen"

OK, I must be WAAAAY outta the loop, b/c I only heard of this earlier today. It looks entertaining, and I may go and see it. But what's up w/ these one word title movies from Disney? "Brave", "Tangled", "Frozen". Are they trying to make Disney edgier? Or are they just too lazy to come up w/ more clever titles?

"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. It seems like it could probably be a bit of a modern style thing, but my guess is that one word titles are probably easy to brand, and work better in different languages.

It does seem like Disney has been using a lot of one word titles for a while now: Up, WALL-E, Cars, Planes...

    But not always: Wreck-It Ralph

Though, in the old days there was: Fantasia, Bambi, Dumbo, Cinderella...
And the Pirate movies always seem to have insanely long titles I can never remember, so maybe it's just coincidence?

Since most of their films are intended for kids, I think they follow the basic rule in branding - Keep it simple stupid. A one word association is easier to identify for kids and their parents in a merchandise isle than a string of terms where they remember maybe part of the title. It appears this is a northern outdoor adventure. Hence the name - Frozen. That's my guess.

It's loosely inspired by Han Christian Anderson's "The Snow Queen", since Disney modernizes old stories that are Public domain; they rename and re-brand it.
Keeping it simple but also modernizing it, Since it's not The Snow Queen exactly, a new name is given to it so not to confuse HCA fans from thinking it's Disney making that version. It also keeps copy cats from releasing their own versions, to cash in on the name, if it were The Snow Queen.

I agree. I think that's the biggest reason. It helps them fight against the flood of direct to video knock offs and sets their movie apart from previous adaptations.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

There were some horrendous Planes knockoffs out there this year.

anyone else a little disappointed this wasn't a Frozone solo spinoff? Given Disney/Pixar's habit of sequels, i'm really surprised they haven't returned to that universe.

Not to derail the thread, but actually Bird said he didn't want to do a sequel if he didn't have the right idea. In recent articles he sounds a lot more positive about the concept. I think maybe he could be playing a bit diplomatic - maybe he doesn't ever want to do one, but saying that might force sequel-happy Disney to go at it another way (like they did with Pixar). Right now Bird is working with Disney on "Tomorrowland" which is suppose to be a big deal project, so it seems Disney wants to keep Bird happy too.

Here's a recent article I saw with Bird discussing Incredibles 2:

The helmer, who tells THR he has thought of "many, many elements that I think would work really well," also reveals why he turned down "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Wow, They gave it the same name as this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1323045/
, Which I watched a couple years back. That movie was a real seat edger and no where near Disney. I'm sure this one has nice wolves.

I would LOVE to see a sequel to The Incredibles. It definitely screams "SEQUEL" more than any other Pixar film. But I would like to see Bird direct, so I'll wait...

Frozen looks good. Tangled was a lot of fun, and a nice, fresh update on the Disney Princess idea without going into Shrek territory.

Seeing as I have a 5-year old daughter, I'll be in a theater seat watching this in a couple of weeks.

I have seen the trailers for a couple months now in the theatre; just recently on TV. We will go see it. Seems like it would fit good with the holidays.

I'm a HUGE Incredibles fan too - but I'm kinda hoping it gets left as-is. As much as I love the characters and would be tempted to see them again I think it's such a beautiful and complete feeling story about those characters becoming a family that I'm worried a new family crisis would cheapen the original story's meaning a bit. You know what I mean? And if they just do an adventure with out the realistic family crisis to me that would be really shallow. There's already so many standard superhero movies, just using these characters for that doesn't seem worth it.

I kinda liked Samurainoir's idea though - I'd like to see more of Frozone and his wife - maybe dealing with her being 'normal' and his being a super - or maybe a story about Frozone having a kid. I think expanding the universe like that would be a lot of fun, maybe with appearances by The Incredibles.

True - I liked that one. Great little low-budget thriller.
