I'm pretty sure my first purchase with my money was probably trading cards or comic books.

My first toy purchase was in 1975 - I was 9 years old.

I bought the Funstuff Spider-man Webshooter. The one that you snapped on to your wrist and it shot a dart.

I was so excited, I forgot to tie the string to the shooter. I shot the dart...and it went under the grandparent's porch. Lost forever.

the thing only came with one dart, so I was done. Never got the dart back.

We had a small grocery store in Louisville across the street from my folks' house, and I can remember going there to get Planet of the Apes, & Star Wars cards with my own money. I can remember getting some grass mowing money, and spending it on cards. I also remember my route to the grocery vividly! I'd run through the wooded area (my shortcut), and around through the back of the gas station, I'd look both ways before I crossed the street to get to the grocery, and then B-line to the register area to get the cards! The cards were at the bottom of the candy rack. Also, back then, cards were 10 - 12 cents a pack... and had bubble gum in the packs. I still have the Planet of the Apes cards, but I sold off the Star Wars cards in the late 80's....
I used to love Ayr-Way. I haven't heard anyone mention it in years. All of our Ary-Ways in Evansville, IN became Target stores in the early 1980s. Though, K-mart is where I got a lot of toys on Saturday afternoons when I was very young.

At one point, when Ayr-way was still around, they had a toy clearance in a stock room section (never had seen anything like it before). Anyway, I remember they had Mego Star Trek figures on clearance, amongst many other toys. The ones that stick out in my memory were the Star Trek figures. I specifically remember Uhura.

That's a toughie. Even though I received money for birthdays and holidays, but remember buying very few if any toys of my own. The $5 weekly allowance I received usually went to comics and a meal out. Somewhere either in my attic or closest there is a journal I kept briefly in my early teens. In that journal it documents my mother taking myself and my best friend to a store called The Toy & Sport Warehouse and I purchased Remco Wolfman while my friend purchased a Frankenstein. By that time I had whatever Star Wars figures I wanted and although I remembered seeing them didn't have much interest in the 12 inch Megos for whatver reason.

Hard to remember but it was probably a rack toy. I do remember that by '83 I was putting money into Heman figures with what I got towards Christmas and birthdays.

The first big thing I bought with money I earned was a Sega Master System.

I think it was G.I. Joe Scarlet that I bought with my 8th birthday money. I do recall that my mom was surprised the action figure I bought was a girl.
