Just know that you are doing what is best. 21 years is amazing. My kids were 9 and 7 when our dog passed, its tough, but the kids bounced back quicker than I did.
    It's all good!

I feel terrible for you but the right thing to isn't always an easy thing. One thing that I would recommend to you is continue to do like you've done here in reaching out to folks. The lady that I've partnered with in the Canine Community Reporters project understands this emotional time so very well that she developed an outreach to help pet parents cope and support one another during times of loss or reflection. If your on facebook check it out sometime. It's helped a lot of folks so far and may be good for you too. All the best.

sorry to hear that. making that decision was the hardest thing I ever had to do when our dog was at that stage. 21 years is a good long life for a dog and know that you are making the right decision, as hard as it is. quality of life is not something to take lightly.

It is one of the hardest things to do in life. Your sure but your not, you don't want to make life and death decisions. It sucks. I just put one of mine down on Weds, she was 18. I couldn't even talk when I walked her in the vets office. But I know that's what were here for, we are the caretakers of these loving guys and gals. We get so much out of them during their lives and we have to make these tough calls. It will be tough, but after the crying is done you will realize you did the right thing and it doesn't take long. Good luck and remember all dogs go to heaven.

Sorry to hear about this. From personal experience, it is never easy, but no matter how hard it may be, it will help to remember that it's the right thing to do.

I know how you feel, I've done it myself.

That's a good long life, just concentrate all the great years you were buddies, that should ease the pain just a little bit, will still be very difficult, but try to weigh the positives over the negatives if at all possible.

And I echo the sentiment that is the right thing to do.
