    Gentlemen...we can rebuild him.

    Science fiction becomes reality...absolutely amazing.

After losing his lower right leg in a motorcycle accident four-and-a-half years ago, 32-year-old Zac Vawter has been fitted with an artificial limb that uses neurosignals from his upper leg muscles to control the prosthetic knee and ankle. The motorized limb is the first thought-controlled bionic leg, scientists at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago reported Wednesday in The New England Journ

Yeah, I saw that on the news this morning. Absolutely amazing. This gives so many people hope. It has to make you wonder how far they could be from a bionic eye? Or even an ear? Never say never.

Incredible, in 1973 this was science fiction, now it's fact.

        Brilliant.
It will still be quite a long time before any of this becomes "a regular thing", but it will help people so much. I've also seen "exoskeletons" which strap onto a paralyzed person's back, enabling them to actually walk again. Amazing stuff!
Let's hope we live long enough to see all this happen...

My sister in-law has had bionic ears for 15+ years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochlear_implant
