    Dexter finale tonight

The final episode of Dexter airs tonight. The show has suffered since its hey dysarthria, but I still like most of the characters even if the stories themselves have slipped.

That being said, what do you want to happen?

Should he die, be caught, escape, something else?

Personally I'd like to see him caught and all the details come out and see how the other characters deal with it. I know all that won't happen in a one hour show, but that's what I'd like see. A whole season with Dexter on trail would have been a cool way to end the show, to me.

I haven't seen any of the new season of Dexter. I'd given up on all the waiting week to week for the next installment and have taken to binge watching a season all at once so I have no idea what direction this season has gone after Deb shot Leguerta in last years finale. The thing to remember is that with shows like this, your main character is the anti-hero. Eventually one of these shows has to end with the protagonists downfall (which is the direction I think Breaking Bad is going in) but writers hold on to these characters and have an unwillingness to write their end. Tony Soprano is the perfect example of this. You're at the SERIES end so there is no tomorrow. Finish the story. No cliffhangers, no leaving the door open for a comeback. Close it out for good. In the beginning Dexter had this code and over the years he's bent it to suit his needs. It's also become certain that Dexter cannot stop doing what he does and despite him selecting specific victims, he still is at his core, a villain. For Dexter to be considered a good series overall , Dexter has to meet his downfall. I've always thought the narration of the show would be a good way to wrap everything up. After all, who has he been narrating to this whole time? Having him on death row some indistinct time talking to a reporter or a shrink before his execution would be a perfectly plausible way. Have the audience find out that the show was taking place in flashback form as Dexter began to outline his downfall from the beginning. Having him sit on a beach somewhere having escaped capture would just be unfulfilling. He's got to get caught and the show has to come to a complete close. People root for Dexter despite the fact that he's the bad guy and watching his demise will be very uncomfortable for the viewing audience and in doing that will make it all the more memorable which is what all series and a series finales hope to be.

I agree for the series to work for me, Dexter has to be brought to justice in some way.

Without spoiling anything for you, this season has somewhat explored whether or not Dexter is a sociopath or was he conditioned into being a serial killer.

The VoiceOver could very well be him telling/recording his story, but where the penultimate episode left things and with only an hour left to finish the story, there's not enough time for it to conclude in a fashion that will be satisfactory to me.

I'm guessing he's going to die in some mundane way or possibly get away.

I'm hoping I'm wrong and the final show is compelling, but from where it stands going into tonight's finale, I'm not sure what can be accomplished in just an hour.

No, no, no, no...let's stop with all this PC crap, this show is not The Bill Cosby Show, lol.

Dexter is awesome, all he kills are the scum of humanity, he's a friggin' hero to me, he's DA man.

I want him to get away with everything, and I think he will.

In the end, Dexter did give up killing, he let his sister take that last killer out, but at a price, Debra got shot, and she might die...so Dexter will go back to snuffing killers in Argentina, lol.

        Go Dexter go!!!!

The irony is that Debra is more guilty than Dexter for acually killing LaGuardia (and covering up for Dexter), that's why she might be the one who has to pay the piper in the end, not Dexter.

Dude, Dexter had scores of vics, but his true crime was screwing up the lives of everyone close to him - his dad, his wife, her kids, Deb, his next door neighbor, LeGuerta, Doakes and whatever collateral damage happens tonight.

Great character, but no hero, at least not to me.

You are right, but I'm blinded by Dexter's hyponic bloody persona, kinda like Breaking Bad's Walter White, both great dark anti-hero characters.

Just saw the finale, without giving anything away, this was one of the best episodes ever.

                  Nuff said.

I didn't like parts of it...but I can't discuss without giving stuff away so I won't. I will say, though, that, because it's fiction and I'm mentally invested in the characters, I feel free to end it as I see fit. Therefore, in my mind everyone lives happily ever after - the end.

                      ***SPOILER***

Debra's death was actually very sad...I'm trying to be witty and funny here...but I was very saddened by how she died.

For the way the writers backed themselves in, I thought the episode was decent.

Didn't like the final callback, but I'm sure that made it for some folks.

I still think one more season with Dexter getting caught and put on trial would have been interesting.
