This might be a little long, sorry. Some of the longer time members might remember my post about my cousin Kurt a few years back. He was born with a heart and lung defect and was given a pretty grim outlook from 3 months old. Well he beat every goal they set and lived an incredibly productive life through 1 heart transplant, and 2 lung transplants. Unfortunately, he passed away a little over a year ago. Just shy of his 32nd birthday. He was born in 1980. He contracted a rare form of cancer common with transplant patients. While they felt he could have beaten the cancer, they also felt he would be left in a bed ridden, respirator state. They considered making him the first ever 3 time lung transplant recipient, but after reviewing it felt he was too weak to take the chance. He chose to go out on his own terms, and while we were devastated, we all realize we got him for far longer than we ever expected. He graduated high school, college, and became a teacher specializing in robotics.
While he was bed ridden much of the time, he developed a foundation to carry his name after he died, that would support children and help them realize their ideas when no one else would listen to them because they were kids. He felt very strongly that an idea from a child should be considered just as seriously as those that are from an adult. His foundation would supply grants to those that meet foundation criteria, and benefit people or eco situations, etc. Anything that makes the world a better place. So today we had a golf tournament/fund raising event to raise money for the foundation. End of first part of story.
My family is incredibly supportive, and has a pretty good amount of people in it. I don't just mean immediate, but cousins, aunts, friends of family, etc. When you need help, they show up. Today they showed up. End part 2.
Some of the members that are big Family Guy fans, know there are a lot of Rhode Island references. That is because of Exec. Producer Danny Smith, who was a RI native as a kid. The references mean little to most of the US, they hit home for most long time southern New England residents. He does some of the side voices, like Giant Chicken, Wacky, inflatable waving, arm guy, etc. My uncle, Kurt's dad, was best friends with the Smith family and is still tight with them today. Being the level of Family Guy fan I am, it's been a killer to not be able to meet him, the few times were near each other logistically. That changed today. Danny was in town and was able to attend the event, and played in the tournament, finishing third.

Incredibly nice guy, and we talked for quite a while about the show, their toy line from Mezzco, some of the stuff their working on, etc. He took pictures with me and my kids, and with my friends who came in support of the foundation, and ended up winning the best ball tournament.
Then came the charity raffle. Many donations and gift cards were given away. A tremendous amount of money was raised. So Danny takes the mike and apologizes for not bringing some Family Guy swag for the raffle but offers up a golf towel give away, from Family Guy's own fund raising tournament that they run. It was the one off his bag, and is embroidered with Quagmire in the buff saying,"Wash your balls boys, Giggity Giggity". He also promises some additional items will be included and sent to the winning bidder. So I decide I would like this. The money all goes to Kurt's foundation, this is a win-win. The opening bid is...a grand. I almost crapped myself. I'm like I can't drop that much. My son gets in the mix and gets the high bid at $1300. That's my boy. Going once, going twice, going thr $1400! Some ******* at the back of the hall outbid my kid! Well the bid went up to $1500 so the ******* didn't get it any way. As soon as I get the stuff I'll post pics of it. Danny promised it would be awesome. Like I said, my family backs each other up. Nobody outbids my kid. As soon as I get the towel framed I'll post up pics. All in all a fantastic night that benefitted a great cause.
