Earthquake has the UK all excited.

"The biggest earthquake in the UK for nearly 25 years has shaken homes across large parts of the country."

BBC NEWS | England | Earthquake felt across much of UK

Everybody in the UK seems to be talking about it.

It woke me and the Mrs up. There had been gales blowing most of last night and I just said it was the wind outside - It dawned on me as the night went on that we had felt an earth tremor.

The only I have noticed in our house is that my Jawa in my display case has turned 90 degrees sideways.

When I read the title I thought he was wrestling with Tugboat/Typhoon again or something.

Yes i was woken just before 1am,the bed was shaking aswell as the house rumbling,i did think it was a Ghost at first, then i thought it couldn't of been an earthquake didn't realise until i was on the way to work and herd it on the radio, that there was one.

The last one i felt was when there was an earthquake in Dudley, that was weird as the birds was chirpping like mad outside, then stopped, then we had the earthquake.

Hope the Jawa is ok Paul

Apparently Greece is quite a hotspot in Europe.

Pulled from the BBCs web pages.....

There are 200-300 quakes in Britain every year. Most are so small, no-one notices them. Something of Market Rasen's size is seen once every 30 years or so, although they are more common in offshore areas.

This was the largest earthquake in the UK since the magnitude 5.4 Lleyn Peninsula earthquake in 1984, which was widely felt across England and Wales.

The largest recorded earthquake experienced in the UK occurred in 1931 and measured 6.1. The epicentre was Dogger Bank in the North Sea and so had little impact on the mainland.

The UK lies well away from the world's tectonic hotspots but these processes still play a role in the country's relatively small tremors.

Britain also feels the effects of earthquakes in the North Sea. Here, the crust is much thinner and it is also marked by large numbers of faults.

                Glad everyone is OK.

I would eave the Jawa in that position. He went through a lot of effort to move there

Fortunately, I have never experienced an Earthquake before.

The closest experience I can even relate to is sitting at a restaurant in West Virginia not realizing there was a mine fairly close by that blasted some dynamite causing the whole restaurant to vibrate. It was one of the strangest things I have ever experienced.

Glad to hear everything was ok.

The strongest earthquake I felt measured 8.2 in 1993 while in Guam. They say San Francisco is overdue for the next big one.

Glad you didn't have any damage. I felt some rippers during my 5 years in Japan.

I was talking to my girlfriend minutes after it happened. She got online and told me they just had an earthquake. She lives in Cheshire so she felt it roll.
She was kinda taken aback since she's never been through one. No harm to her house.

I've been in many growing up in L.A. All the big gones since '75. Missed the '71 in San Fernando.
Even here in Seattle we get a lot. Worse one was in '01 in Nisqually. We experienced liquefaction in the downtown Seattle region and that was the most surreal vision I've ever seen. The streets and side of buildings were all waving. I thought the building I was standing next to was going to collapse on me so I ran into the street. Cars were bobbing up and down. The monorail appeared as if it were going to topple over.

Gotta learn to live with them since the plate tectonics is part of life.

We get rare earthquakes in NYC. There was a noticable one in Upstate NY a few years back that collapsed a road.
