Another museum member and I were discussing a bit of world news yesterday, and it made me think about my earliest memories of TV new/history. The member is a little older than me and could vividly remember Viet Nam coverage.
I was born in 1967 and I remember watching coverage of some of the manned space launches from the early 70s, I remember Nixon's "I'm not a crook" speech and later his resignation. I' remember the Patty Hearst's kidnapping and also remember when the U.S. finally pulled out of Nam, but not the daily reports. I also don't remember the '72 Olympic crisis, although I've read a good bit about it later.
From Ford's presidency on, I've got pretty solid memories of the news/history.
How about you guys? What are the earliest news/history events that you recall from childhood?
