    Conan Advice

    Fantasy fiction fans-

I had a few Conan the Barbarian comic books way back, but I have never read any of the original Robert E Howard stories.

Any advice on a good starting point for the Conan books?

    Thanks in advance.

Start from the beginning. Heres the printed list in order. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_the_Barbarian
These are the versions that I have (nice volume set): http://www.amazon.com/The-Coming-Con...f=cm_lmf_img_3

I actually think reading the Kull stories first is better. My favorite Conan story is The tower of the elephant.

Cool, thank you! I saw that Del Rey collection you linked, and it looked like a classy set.

        Much appreciated figuremod73.

You can get all the REH stories in one hardback volume here. Personally, I'd start with The Frost Giant's Daughter, although my personal favorite is Beyond the Black River.

True, The Frost Giant's Daughter, would be a good approach to if you wanted to follow his "career" from the early days. There are different sites that tend to go in different orders but this one here is pretty good: http://www.barbariankeep.com/galen.html

Cant beat those early Windsor-Smith and Buscema issues either. Roy Thomas imo did his best work writing (and often adapting Howards stories) on those.

Theres gonna be a new film in 2014 starring Arnie to.

If you have a Kindle or iPad, you might check to see if there is a free download version. A lot of older material is public domain.

                Hmmmm....

If you can find them, the old Ace paperbacks from the 70's were good. They're mostly in order too. It's funny; but if you read them in order you can really tell when the Howard material stopped.
