    Back to School...

Although I don't have any kids but I know some of you do it's back to school time.
I remember how sad I would get cause summers were over as a kid but always looked forward to seeing my friends that I hadn't seen all summer. I always back then was excited to see everyone's lunch boxes and couldn't wait to use my trapper keeper (which would always break). Fall was around the corner and that meant halloween and new saturday morning cartoons.
Its still strange for me cause as a kid we didn't go back to school until the day after labor day.
What are your memories of your back to school childhood experiences?

I drained EVERY drop out of summer, every year. It was wall-to-wall play. So I guess I never felt like I had wasted summer, so going back to school was never too traumatizing.

I hate back to school...I live right next to an elementary school, and it means aggressive and annoying parents clogging up our parking spaces, blocking driveways, and just being an overall drag during before classes and after classes, friggin' fighting for pick up their kids' position, it's like a bunch of mad wilderbeests.

The kids themselves don't bother me, they are not let out outdide, they stay within the confines of the school. It's the inconsiderate and aggressive/annoying parents who I hate.

Other than that, back to school is OK, lol.

Yep, new lunchboxes (Kung Fu! Star Wars!), new sneakers, that knot in your stomach, looking for the right lunch table at which to sit.

I would dread 4th of July, because as fun as it was to blow stuff up, it meant that endless summer that I felt at the end of the school year was half over.

School always started mid August in Nebraska and it was always so HOT, it was unbearable. The school building didn't have any AC and it was like sitting in a brick oven.

Seeing all you're friends again was the only thing that made school tolerable.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

Did they build the school after you bought the house?

No, but I had no idea parents acted this way...now I know.

Summer vacation is like nirvana in my neighborhood...holidays and weekends are awesome too...when the school closes, it's pretty cool as well.

Only in the mornings...and at around 3pm...is when I hate my street, lol.

I hope they tare down that bloody school one day, lol.

Like I said, I have nothing against the kids...it's the damn bloody parents, lol.

OK, I shouldn't hate the school too much...the official voting designation for me is right there...so when elections are held...I just walk three houses to the right, and I'm there, lol.

Ok, now that I vented...I'm now going to say on topic, lol.

As a kid...I loved going back to school...like many already said, I'd get new stuff, whether it was lunchboxes, clothes, shoes, stationary stuff, new notebooks, pencils...my sister and I were also picked up by the school bus (which I dug)...and one of my favorite traditions was to open up my metal lunchbox during lunch, and smell that aroma from the sandwich and banana...man...that combo smell takes me way back, lol.

I was ambivalent about going back to school but I got into once it was under way a few weeks but I love this time of year I get to hear the high school marching band practice in the evening.

Definitely a time of mixed emotions- I loooooved summer and playing all day. I swear the green grass in the our apartment courtyard went on forever It was always sad to let it go BUT... I also geeked out over getting school supplies, specifically my Mead school supplies!

The best thing about school starting for me was two-a-day football practices ending and the games on Thursday ( junior high) and Friday (high school) nights.

In elementary school, it just meant it was that much closer to Halloween and Christmas.

I always looked forward to seeing all of my friends, again. We would always go out of town in August, so coming back meant seeing everyone again.
                            It's all good!
