    Rolex Watch

    Anybody here own one?

If you do, please post a picture.

It has been my dream to get one for years...but as you know, they are sure pricey.

I'm currently on the hunt for an entry level one, vintage is cool...the words Rolex on the watch itself is not a must, since the company did offer a cousin called Oyster Lipton (to the Canadian market)...one cool model was a World War II era watch (military)...you can find some for about $1500...and they are officially a Rolex watch, same company, same high quality components.

Anyway, just curious which fellow geeks own a Rolex, so out with your pictures...

I am a Breitling fan myself. Not near as prestigious as Rolex, but some cool designs. I personally do not like gold watches, I prefer polished steel. (does Rolex make a steel watch?) My baby is the Super Avenger. It's a really big watch and I love my white dial version best.

Rolex are nice, dont get me wrong, but Its not appealing to me to own an expensive watch like that, and worry about getting knocked in the head, or killed over a watch. I will stick to my all black Luminox. But, they are very nice watches.

I hope these pics work! I thought I had one of my dad's Rolex but I can't find it. If you haven't decided already I would strongly suggest buying a used one. There are lots of reputable sellers on ebay. That's where I got my Speedmaster. I would also lurk on the Rolex site at watchuseek.com. There are also guys who sell on that site. My favourite Rolex would have to be the Submariner.

You should look at watchuseek.com's message boards... great resource if you want to learn about watches.

I'd be nervous having all that money on my wrist. That and buying a used one seems really, really risky for a novice unless you are buying from a reputable jeweler.

Like I said, very nice watches, but I would be totally paranoid wearing one, especially these days. I just done want to get robbed, shot over a watch. Its not worth it to me, what is really, but to each his own. Thats why I wear a black watch that doesnt stand out, made of plastic(Luminox blackout). All I need.

Here's mine. The wife and I bought matching Datejust's for Christmas 2003. She has since replaced hers because she didn't like the style, but I wear mine every day, everywhere... in the pool, in the ocean, wherever. It is a tank. After 10 years of daily wear, it still looks new. I personally liked the Daytona model the best when picking them out, but it and the Submariner were just too big on my wrist. I would definitely recommend one.

Actually, that picture doesn't show it's shine very well (probably due to the flash). Here's a random one from Facebook of me (green shirt on the right). It shines like it's chrome (it's white gold and stainless) in normal light. Very great looking, especially with a dress shirt, etc.

Just answering all your questions instead of quoting each everyone of you...

Yes, they come in stainless steel too...I hate the look of gold myself.

Yes, I'm shopping for a used one, and yes, from a real highly regarded jeweler.

New Rolex are only sold in official Rolex authorized dealer, but you don't have to be a Rolex dealer to sell used ones.

To land a modern one would rule, but I also like the older vintage ones, many can be had for a great price.

My dad had one, but my oldest half brother inherited it, it was only fitting.

Will not go crazy with money, again, I'm not gonna get a real expensive one, as I said before, a good vintage Rolex Oyster Lipton can be had for about $1500, that's probably what I'm shooting for.

Thank guys, and the pictures rock.
