Its gotta be one of the top pop songs ever recorded.
Gold."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I'm a sucker for alot of those "lite rock" songs from the 1970s, like the "Pina Colada Song". Much like Megos or classic tv commercials, those songs remind me of my childhood and I still like hearing them. I listen to the XM and AOL Radio stations alot while online and usually I'm either listening to '80s New Wave stuff or the 1970s classic rock or soft rock. Some metalhead I amComment

I'm not into the REAL heavy bands like you are nvmb----but people are still
surprised that I like the real easy listening and poppy stuff --that is---
IF they've already heard my own bands' music---otherwise, I guess its pretty
believable I'd like lite-rock (Air Supply anyone?) cause I'm kinda "cheesey"
at first glance/meeting anyways
If I remember right nvmb--and with all respect--you have more of a
tough-guy look---so I can see where it'd be harder for people to believe
you like that kinda stuff at first glance
Anyways, I don't believe in the "guilty" part of the term "guilty pleasure"
If a certain thing makes ya happy for the reasons you listed---then its good
enough, eh? Kinda like Mego and alotta the other stuff we talk around here.
I kinda took the conversation and ran into a different direction with it---
as nvmb wasn't saying he felt weird about Pina Colada persay---
just thought I'd talk about the "guilty pleasure" aspect of this genre to
spark more conversation on a very closely related topic
Granted, for a huge sect of people lite-rock (70s, etc.) just makes them
vomit---but I thought I'd give a shout out positively anyways!
P.S. nvmb---I love 80s NEW WAVE too!"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I hadn't heard the song in years and one of my co-workers has an iPod that he occassionally listens to in a speaker docking station on low volume. Every Friday, as a joke, he would play "Afternoon Delight" and start singing along loud to the lyrics trying to get everyone to chime in to the last vocal of the song."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
