    No new patients :(

So I wrenched my back about a month and a half ago, pulled something maybe I don't know what, and kept thinking "it'll get better". Well after eating on advil, aleave, and anything else that was in the medicine cabinet I broke down and called the doctor's office yesterday for an appointment. I ask the lady for the next afternoon appointment she had, she asked my name and when I gave it to her she said "your not in our system" . Really I said, if been there several times over the years, but its been about 10 years since I've had a problem.
She told me that they drop people as patients after 5 years, really?????????????
So I ask if I could have an appointment as a new patient.
She said sorry we aren't taking on new patients right now.
So this doctors office had my medical history and now I'm just gone, but gee my back still hurts, but after talking to her my head does too.

I threw my back out a few years ago. Doctor didn't even want to see me because other than prescribing pain killers he said there isn't much he can do. I did the hot/cold method as he advised by wearing those Heat packs that wrap around the waist then switching off to a cold compress. Took about a week to get fully back on my feet. Good luck!

Sucks about dropping you as a patient though.

There's no way to non- politicize this, but this is just the beginning of the doctor fiasco inder the current administrations health plan passed in 2010. Its downhill from here.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Wow that stinks, maybe they can refer you to another doctor? How does your back hurt? Does it feel like muscle pain sore, stiff, or is is nerve pain like shooting pain down your legs? If is is muscle they can give you a muscle relaxer or a quick shot and then Physical Therapy.

good luck, I have back problems so I know the pain.

My doctors office told me the same thing. Hadn't been there in years and they wouldn't take new patients! Been going there since about 4 years old!
What I did do was get a copy of my file! They said after 10 years they'll shred old records.
I'm still without a primary physician...

Maybe if there's no way to avoid politicizing something, you should avoid politicizing it here on the toy board.

This is pretty normal practice actually. 5 or 10 years is a long time, and most offices make patients inactive after three years. It's not a slight to you as a patient or a person, it's simply how offices work. New patients come in, there's only so much room for files, and it's assumed you as a patient have moved on to another doctor.

I've been through a similar situation. It stinks when you have a comfort level with a particular provider and they can't fit you in. Don't give up in frustration; you may suffer more in the long run. Find somewhere that is taking new patients and see what they can do for you. You probably need some rest and/or rehab. It sucks getting old!

I wrote what I wrote knowing full well it could get pulled. It seemed pertinent and it's truth. My wife has no less than nine physicians and they all have told us what's coming and the cuts the medical industry will be making. This "toy board" is full of incredibly bright and intellectual people who can discuss a wide variety of non-toy topics, hence this general board and the lounge. I get what you're saying and partially agree, but I think we're all mature enough to know the lines not to cross. I simply stated that a bill, which passed into law in 2010, will have negative effects on the quality of our future healthcare. This will affect all of us at some point.

And there you go again. First off, your opinion, even if it's shared by nine doctors, is not the truth. It's an opinion. Please stop posting your political opinions on the toy board whose rule at the top says "no politics." I don't know how it could possibly be more clear.
