    Oscars

I'm glad my boy Javier Bardem won...viva España!

Mmm, Javier Bardem not only gets an Oscar, but he's dating Penelope Cruz too.

    Lucky man.

I'm also glad Daniel Day-Lewis won as well. I was afraid they might give it to either George Clooney or Johnny Depp, both solid actors with box-office success...but Daniel Day-Lewis peformance was so superior...quality prevailed over popularity this time...and about friggin' time too.

Best Picture was also well-deserved. 'There Will Be Blood' was great...but I thought 'No Country for Old Men' was a more complete film...although the peculiar thing is that 'There Will Be Blood' had the far more sastifying ending, while 'No Country for Old Men' had the WHAT THE HELL ending...go figure, lol.

Did any Americans besides the Coen Brothers win anything tonight?

I'm pleased that Marion Cotillard won Best Actress for her role as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose.

All four acting prizes went to Europeans: Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard, Spaniard Javier Bardem, and Brits Daniel Day-Lewis and Tilda Swinton, the supporting-actress winner for "Michael Clayton.

I don't recall anytime where no Americans won an Oscar for acting before.

        Hey,
I read that the only other time that the four big Oscars for acting went to all foreign actors was in 1964. Julie Andrews was one of them, for the Sound of Music I think.

I won the pool at the Oscar party I went to, so I'm happy. I also got violently ill about 2 hrs later from eating a double helping of a Romaine salad that had feta cheese and garlic etc in it and had apparently been sitting out too long, so that sorta put a damper on things.

          I know, I know.. TMI!!

I was very glad to see the song from "Once" win. That's the cutest damn film. And some good tunes in it.

John Stewart was amusing as always.

I thought the win for Once and the extra acceptance speech was the best moment.

I love Stewart, but he seems too insincere for the Oscars.

Scott, thanks for pointing that out. I didn't even know they let Marketa Irglova come back out (We were en route to home after the initial speech) after cutting her off before she could even say thanks. That ticked me off. I just watched her speech on YT.

was there ever any doubt that Daniel Day-Lewis would take it?

I couldn't agree more with the picks for picture, actor, supporting actor, supporting actress... but I didn't see Marion Cotillard's performance. I did, however, enjoy seeing her win. She seemed honestly takena aback. Then again, she is a pretty good actress.

I really liked Jon Stewart. He can't be as cutting as he is on his own show, but I thought he more comfortable and pretty funny.

I don't many of them either except Daniel Day Louis from Last of the Mohicans.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of the movies that were even up for Best Picture but I'm always a bit behind when it comes to movies. I remember finally seeing "The Departed" about 4 or 5 months ago and it was a really good movie. I also only saw "Million Dollar Baby" in the last year which was also an excellent flick.

I had been wanting to see Atonement, There Will be Blood, and Atonement but have seriously never heard of the movie that won but now I want to see it because I usually do like the movies that win.

Ditto. I am not good with keeping up with who's who anymore, and rarely venture out to the movies.

The funny part of the Oscars is the all the glam and glitz of the red carpet.

The company I work for has its flagship store one block from where the Oscars are held in Hollywood. In fact, I was there last year as they were setting up the red carpet and tarps. That area is really run down and they make it look all extravagant.
