I can't get enough of the guy. His voice is so relaxing...I just get mesmerized watching him paint. Freaking unreal what he can do with basically house painting brushes.

Yeah, I can relate...I've been snubbed by the "serious art" crowd too. You paint some fat chick eating a grape and you're an "artist" . You paint Batman and you're a joke.Comment

The guy painting Batman can possibly make a living at it though. That was always my argument. A fellow student of mine was a great landscape artist like Ross, and the instructors ripped him a new hole daily. I kept thinking he had a helluva better chance selling his relatable art to folks like Hallmark than those guys did to anyone. Thomas Kincaid anyone?

Bob did hard and humble work as a mentor to many artists over the years. The TV show and merchandising were vehicles and enablers for many other things he cared about. To my knowledge he was so much more than the sham dynasty of Kinkade.
Oh, and the cranky German Bill Alexander rocked too!Comment

when it was His birthday, I had posted a few links on my FB page to foreign video sites that had a ton of his episodes up to watch. Will fish the links out--"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hells Angels is currently unclear,"

Bob Ross was great. One of lines I loved from his show was "My dad always said. if you want to catch a rabbit go behind a bush and act like a carrot". Now it has been a few years since I saw that episode so I might be off on the quote, but I laughed pretty darned hard when he said that.
I like the take off they did of him on Boondocks (one of the few episodes I watched)

Hells yeah!
I used to love watching him as a child, and that love stuck following me all the way through adult hood.
He's like a hairy dalai lama. I always felt so good and cheery after one of his sessions. He's more than kinda sexy too. That voice. THAT AFRO.
I've taped a bunch of his shows, and have been meaning to make my own painting with him, but have never gotten around to it.Last edited by Splitty; Jul 25, '13, 3:21 PM.Comment
