I think maybe it just became too cliche to use as a reference and not very stylish, maybe? Like caviar use to be the go to rich-person reference before. I think now it's been replaced with exotic bottled water brands - at least according to recent Adam Sandler movies.
I remember when I watched "The Queen of Versailles"*, the 'Queen' bought herself $1000 worth of caviar to eat on Christmas morning, and I remember how crazy and cliche that seemed for a real person to do.
* An incredible documentary (my personal favorite movie from last year) about one of America's richest families dealing with the financial market crash of 2008
Never had Dom, Cristal or Perrier-Jouet. I've had Moet & Chandon (liked) and Veuve Clicquot (didn't like). Veering somewhat away from the original topic: I've found that I like frizzante wines with a little residual sugar better than brut Champagne. However, my current kick is Redstone's Sunshine Nectar, which is a carbonated mead (honey wine) with apricot puree added after fermentation. It's not excessively sweet, and the apricot works really well with the honey. Interestingly, I think it's best two days after the bottle has been opened.
